And I have an employee that refuses to do what he was hired to do, do I have the right to fire him for "just cause?"
Yes, but I’m confident the language in the contract wouldn’t allow that. Without reviewing and my law degree, I’ll assume this was written to protect the employee and not the employer. Barnhart got played by Cal because of the noise that he was interested in UCLA. Wish Barnhart had called his bluff and let him go back then…And I have an employee that refuses to do what he was hired to do, do I have the right to fire him for "just cause?"

Cause means improprieties-not wins and losses or failure to maintain a certain winning %-age or a certain level of performance. Surely you don’t think otherwise?Cal has the exact same language as every other college coach in the NCAA when it comes to being fired for cause. Stop playing dumb.
What is he required to do?And I have an employee that refuses to do what he was hired to do, do I have the right to fire him for "just cause?"
Not miss the tourney twice in a 8 year span and at the very least win a 1st round game.....that is at the very leastWhat is he required to do?
Did you give them a lifetime contract with a buyout of 50 million plus? And I have an employee that refuses to do what he was hired to do, do I have the right to fire him for "just cause?"
Why isn't there a performance clause included in coaches contracts? So simple to do. Require a certain % winning and making certain levels in NCAAT after say 5 years. I know why. It is educators using someone else's money. And I am a retired educator. It would depend on the terms of his contract. He isn't an 'at will' employee.

It’s harder to get fired when you work for state or local governments in general. I work for my local PD. They can’t just fire me just because they don’t like me or I make a simple mistake. I have certain rights guaranteed before I am ever terminated. Even if you commit murder you still go through the same process albeit expedited very quickly. We actually had an officer kill his pregnant side piece a couple of months ago. The department still had to go through the process to terminate the employment. He was placed on paid administrative leave and terminated by the next day.And I have an employee that refuses to do what he was hired to do, do I have the right to fire him for "just cause?"
No idea..do you know what's in his contrat....you ask what he is required to do......that should be a requirement for any UK coach. So that’s in his contract?

Can you imagine giving a coach a contract that said you can never miss the tournament and never lose in the first round. How ridiculousGuess it wasn't in Joe Bs either. He missed it 3 times in 6 seasons.
How about put in the contract, "Don't be an ******* to the fans and don't lie to the public about recruits and injuries kthxbai"Can you imagine giving a coach a contract that said you can never miss the tournament and never lose in the first round. How ridiculous
Wonder if the tornado victims appreciate his fundraising and personal donation. How about put in the contract, "Don't be an ******* to the fans and don't lie to the public about recruits and injuries kthxbai"
And there you go changing the subject.Wonder if the tornado victims appreciate his fundraising and personal donation.
Is that part of a written requirement in his contract, or is that a fan requirement? Not trying to argue, just want to point out that I'd think the agreement he has with UK isn't that specific with regards to performance expectations. Most likely it doesn't say much of anything except "for cause", but then how the heck is that even defined? Not miss the tourney twice in a 8 year span and at the very least win a 1st round game.....that is at the very least
BS. There are always good coaches ready to take the job regardless.A move like OP is suggesting is the fastest way to not being able to land a decent coach for a long *** time. Nobody worth a damn would take that risk.
Because that doesn’t count. Right? And there you go changing the subject.

How many teams received bids in the NCAAT?Guess it wasn't in Joe Bs either. He missed it 3 times in 6 seasons.
