this would be my final year. I would just resign. I like Rick, but if you can't see the writing on the wall, then you're uhh... blind.
Reason being because:
1. I still have a decent lineup to go out on a positive note. Including one Renardo Sidney. Let's say that Bost returns- that's a pretty good PG. I have Phil Turner, Kodi, and sigh Riley Benock that are all experienced seniors. Not a dream team, mind you, but one that could still get to the Big Dance. That would be a nice way to go out.
2. That said, ALL of those guys are likely to leave, including Bost. Then who replaces them? If I was Rick Stansbury, and I was able to get the guys from Mississippi that are worth a darn- Adams, O'Bryant, Deville Smith, Hood, and Ammons - and I will admit that I am no basketball guru, but I have seen film on these players, and I'm going with the eye test here- I would probably stay. But Adams has already signed with Duke, and it's pretty obvious that O'Bryant is going to probably go to UK. And then the others are not exactly in the bag by any means either. And now we have guys like Osby and Ravern Johnson jumping ship. So, then we're looking at a lineup of God knows what- Twany, Bryant, Shaun Smith who may or may not be healthy, Wendell Lewis, and then "gulp" John Riek? That's an awe inspiring group right there.
3. I'm still able to land a decent job. No matter what you think about Rick, Clemson wanted him. Now, if Stansbury stays here longer and continues the fine MSU tradition of destroying what he built- and let's face it, MSU is the world's worst at not knowing when to fire someone, except for Croom (I wonder what was different there?)- no one is going to want to hire him except for maybe some small schools such as Samford or other people like that. He has been here for over 10 years, which is forever in the coaching world. He has won Championships and has had a nice run while he is here. The best move for Rick long-term is to leave, get more money and get in a decent situation rather than end up at Austin Peay.
Of course, what will happen is Stansbury will stick around, the program will decline, the only people in the stands will be the guy with the wig, Candyman Ron, Meo, and the fat chick until we have yet another steaming pile of dung.
