it seems that a good percentage of the people that feel compelled to comment on even decent newspaper sites are total idiots.

(note: I'm generalizing here. I have no idea of what specifically you're talking about)

His article today was not good enough for my dog to crap on. Whether he supports the bell or not he should respect the tradition.

And he can have any kind of personal opinion he wants to. But his column was 100% dead-on accurate.

To me the article came across as not caring about the tradition of the cowbell and condecending. I could handle that better coming from an MSU fan or alumni. I agree that our fans have been stupid about when to ring the bells at the games but he should wade more carefully into that issue.
I read his articles every day and for the most part he has improved dramatically but sometimes he struggles to actually focus on positive coverage.

We, the fans of MSU, have really screwed this up for ourselves. We had a chance to keep them really relevent andin the stadium on gamedays, but couldn't follow simple rules.

Besides, I've always thought that the Cowbells were a crutch when it came to making noise- the loudest games I've been to were when there were only a handfull (relatively speaking) of cowbells in the crowd. And from reading different coach's quotes through the years crowd noise isn't a big factor these days- everything from playcalling to snapping has gone visual. That being said, the one time it may make a difference is when no one really cheers or rings much anyway- during time outs when everyone is huddled up with the coach (which happens to be one of the times it IS legal to ring). Finally, to paraphrase a quote I just read from Mark Richt- once you get over a certain decibel level you can't hear anything anyway. I know the stadium can get loud enough without cowbells- we don't get bonus points for for beingtwice as loud enough by using cowbells.

(All that being said- I really wish the SEC would just let it go and we could ring whenever we wanted.)

"I
said that the first time I was there, I said, ‘You know what, come on.
Come on. Let it go. Are you kidding me?’ That’s what the homefield
advantage is about. It’s not like they play every game at home. They’ve
got to go on the road, too. You go on the road, you know what? The other
people give you the business; that’s part of it.

“I
love when they ring the cowbells. I was on the field last week before
the pregame, and I went to the end zone section over there, they’ve got
the end zone camera. I turned the camera on the end zone student body
over there, and I was revving them up. I said, ‘Ring them bells! Come
on, let’s get them bells going!’”

wish I knew how to get the audio off my digital recorder, because it
was classic Edwards when he started talking about Auburn QB Cam Newton. Just try to imagine it. He said, “Wow. Woooow.” Good stuff.

Just try to imagine it? Isn't a journalist supposed to tell us what happened? Now we're supposed to imagine what happened.

...Here's my recap of KY vs MSU. It was a good one. Imagine what happened.
