If I were Mullen, I'd hire Dubose as DC away from Memphis

He may still be close with coaches at Trezvandt, but it may not be the same since Logan is dead now.

With Dubose being a little older, don't you think he might jump at the chance to almost completely and totally run the defense by himself? He's a fantastic defensive coach, and with his knowledge and track record of good defenses, and the chance to get back into the SEC, I would think we could make a legit bid for him to want to come here. MSU > Memphis. I mean seriously, if an SEC school comes calling for you to be their DC, why would you stay at Memphis.

Most of them haven't dealt with today's Spread Offenses. Heck, a lot of the older coaches have no clue on how to defend against a good passing game. I don't think Dubose was ever a DC...I think he went straight from Defensive line coach to Head coach.

Mullen needs to stay with a young coach with Head Coaching ambitions.

Dubose was defensive line coach. Brother Bill Oliver was defensive coordinator.

Dubose was DC at Alabama for one year (1996). Oliver was the DC from 1990-1995. The Tide fans started a fax campaign, etc. to get Dubose hired after Stallings retired in 1996 thinking that one year as DC made him qualified (he was a great DL coach before his promotion).

let's go forward not backwards. Dubose is done. Edited to add: The man had 2 of 4 losing seasons at ALABAMA. Think about that.

by the large portion of our fanbase that wants retread coaches over and over aGAIN. Whenever a slot opens up, it's the same 10 names of coaches that passed their prime, if they ever had one, 10 years ago.

If Hudspeth leaves, should we hire Ray Goff?

which small college coaches are ready to step up. But they remember coaches like Dubose having a good defense once 15 years ago.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen a post about a coach and I immediately think "hell no".

DuBose falls in that category to.

His skills of coaching are on the defensive side of the field and great defensive mind and is teacher of solid fundamentals. He loves a great pass rush & pressure on QB's. If C.Mullin wanted him I would be with him 100% and know he would love some pay back in the SEC!! Also very good defensive line coach in NFL.

while he was at Millsaps how he was happy there and liked the environment there as opposed to that of Bama. I think he was referring to the lack of pressure, reading between the lines.

He was a d-line coach for quite a while- like 20 years, and he became Bama's HC as much as anything because of his ties to the Bear. Great defensive minds don't coach the d-line for that long without getting a shot at calling plays.

He has been out of the SEC for awhile, and Millsaps is quite different than even MSU. I know MSU could do better than DuBose. I don't see why we couldn't get Manny Diaz from MTSU, or honestly even a guy like Dick Bumpas from TCU. Those are the kind of guys we need to be going after. Bumpas or a guy like that would be a home run, and a guy like Diaz would be a triple. There would be some risk with Diaz because of his lack of experience, but I think it's marginal.

...like closer to 85%. I'm still baffled by the amount of State fans I know that don't know **** about their own team.

we are the only game they watch. They only keep up with who we recruit. They only know coaches we have or have played against.

We have one of the most uninformed fan bases in the world, and it's the reason why a coach can have Croom's record and still have supporters at the end.

Huh? Are you implying that people, upon hearing of Dan Mullen for the first time, should have already known who he was??

Hell, I'd set that percentage at 100.

that when average MSU fan heard we were looking to hire Mullen, average MSU fan did not know he was offensive coordinator at Florida.

Mike Dubose was born in 1953, Foster in 1959 and Strong 1960. I don't care about age. That is a stupid argument and you don't have to look much further past the White House to see that. Youth is not always a good thing. I just want a good one. I agree about the age difference between Mullen and who ever the DC is. It could be a problem but that is why you have interviews.

Bud Foser and Strong = keeping up with the times.

Torbush = some of the worst defenses in the country every year the last time he was defensive coordinator before coming here. Not the same thing. Age, or rather not keeping up with the times has a lot to do with it.

I tend to agree with Patdog about Dubose. Not being in DI for so many years does hurt his credibility. I still don't have a problem with retread if they can meet those three criterias.
