I just don't think our first 7 games are aganist good enough teams to get us ranked any higher. If we could have started the season no worse than #30 then I could see top 15. However, since we are not even receiving votes I don't think our early schedule lends itself to that high of a ranking barring a lot of major upsets early in the season. That being said, if we are 7 - 0 and somehow beat Alabama then I think we explode up the rankings. That would have us 8 - 0 with a win overa title contending team. If we can start 9 - 0 I see us #9 - #12.

regardless of how good we actually are. Being 7-0 (3-0) in the SEC is at worst 16th in the country - wins over auburn and UT actually matter a little, it's not like our 3 SEC games would be ole miss, UK and Vandy.

Now, if we were to then beat an undefeated Bama, there is a 0% chance we don't vault to top 5 in the country. This won't happen, but starkvegasdawg's comment that we could be as low as 12 in that situation is just silly.

Auburn, Tennessee, and @Kentucky are all quality wins. No way that we wouldn't be Top 15 at 7-0. At worst, we would be in the 16-19 range, but nowhere near borderline Top 25. However, that would be a good problem to have if that is the case.

Shirley, you are not serious. 9-0 with a win over bama at bama would have us in the damn top 5, I do not care WHERE we began the season.</p>

Started out 5-0 by beating:<div>
Miami OH</div><div>South Carolina</div><div>Rice
Ole Miss (they wound up being good that year but were thought to be bad at this point of the season)</div><div>Auburn</div><div>
</div><div>That got them to be #13. (And remember, they lost to us the next week).</div><div>
</div><div>If Vandy can get to #13 with 3 SEC wins, so can we.</div>

would get us in the polls in the lower positions - Let's say #24.

Teams ranked from #20-#25 typically jump 3.4 spots with a win.
Teams from #15-#19 go up 2.5 spots/week
Teams from 10-#14 go up 1.9 spots/week
Teams from #5-#9 average 1.03 spots/week.
Teams from #2-#4 average 0.31 spots/week.

Using this as a guide:
After beating Troy: #21
After beating USA:#18
After Bye: #18 (stats aren't available, so I will say no jump)
After Kentucky: #16
After Tennessee: #13
After Middle Tennessee: #11

If we don't get in the polls after Auburn, it may take possibly 5-0 to get in, which would around #17.

especially against Auburn and UT.

If Auburn crashes and UT isn't good then we'll have a bunch of wins against mediocre or worse teams which will get us somewhere between 20-25. If we are dominating in our wins, we can probably move higher even if we don't have a great win.

If either Auburn or UT have a good record, I think we'll be closer to the 15-17 range.

Even if Auburn is not good though, we'll probably get a bigger boost than we should out of them b/c it will still look like a good win. Also, if most of the undefeated teams fall relatively early, we would get a boost just for being undefeated and in the SEC, even without a particularly good win.
