JMHO, there is NO FREAKING WAY Eichorst will get any established or even semi established coaches to come here. I've advocated for an assistant from a winning program, but I'm not sure that is realistic in light of recent events.

So, if the keys to the program were to be handed over to one of the assistants, interim or permanent, which one should Eichorst consider? Could one of these guys convince Horne, Morrow, and Jacobsen to stay?

No on the interim coach. Just my opinion. If the players like him and he does even marginal job, there will be pressure to give him the job permanently, especially at places like Nebraska where continuity and stability are so important.

I disagree, there won't be any pressure to keep interim the coach unless he makes the NCAA Tournament - and if that happens, that coach deserves the job permanently. I don't think even John Wooden would win with the guys we have coming back.

I'd be fine with the interim coach because it gives us a whole year to scout for the next coach, rather than quickly scrambling to find someone to take the job like we had to do when Collier left. Look at New Mexico's coaching search right now, they can't find seem to find anyone to take the job.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Along with the off chance that the interim has some level of success, you also have to convince someone to take the job on an interim basis right now. No coach in their right mind takes an interim job 6 months before the start of the new season, when they could catch on with another staff with some semblance of stability.

Again good idea in theory but there are just too many things that are affected. A whole year of recruiting is basically lost. We are already behind the 8ball in this class with a bunch of available scholarships, then add in whatever is lost next year, the early signing period for 2018 is in 7 months and an interim coach isn't getting quality players to commit to him.

I am at a loss of words for how Tim's basketball program went from some of the best success ever in 2014 and making the NCAAs to utter failure and 4 players transferring. It's honestly one of the most remarkable dumpster fires I've ever seen.

To answer you, OP, I also think we should go the NBA route. No nonsense and top expertise. Maybe someone with ties to Nebraska or the midwest like a Thunder or Bulls assistant. Hell if the Bulls don't make the playoffs you can almost bet Hoiberg is gone. He was born in Lincoln, give him a shout if he gets fired...it sounds absolutely crazy but you never know. The TWolves are on the rise, maybe grab someone from Minneapolis. We have the facilities, gadgets and fan support to do it. Your move, SE. It's time.

Hell, why not take a shot with Larry Brown.

Agreed. He'll probably be gone within 2-3 years but at least he'd upgrade the talent. Sure, he'll probably land you on probation but with the amount of transfers NU has had under Miles, they're basically on it already. Pay him whatever he wants.

Hoiberg is not returning to the college level, he absolutely hates recruiting. If we go the NBA assistant route, my first choice would be Jay Larranaga of the Celtics. He has a great pedigree, he has major international connections (has coached two European national teams), and is currently coaching under possibly the best coach in the game in Brad Stevens.

At this point, I'd even be happy with Tom Crean. I don't really like him and his teams play no defense, but he's won a lot more NCAA tournament games than any other coach we've had.

Did not know that about Hoiberg. Any idea where I could find more information on him disliking recruiting? On the other hand, I'd be 100% in for Jay Larranaga. Did some research and realized Jay is Miami head coach Jim Larranaga's son. The connection with Sean Eichorst could not make more sense. If he were to sell the job to Jay, it might be SE's get out of jail free card for the basketball program mistake, at least. Great point.

If a coach only lasts 2 or 3 years here, that means we will actually have had some success. I'm praying for a 3 year coach.

I see him sitting out a year, doing a TV gig and waiting for the right job. I don't know the guy but no way in hell does a guy just fired from a basketball blue blood immediately go to a D1 bottom dweller.
He couldn't win .....in a talent hotbed at a program with tons of tradition.

Yeah...where is the "Crean can't win" stuff coming from? Dude took over a program that Kelvin Sampson tried to burn down. He recruits at a high level...he recruits over players and "creans" them when he has to for the sake of the program. He just didn't win enough...and by enough...that basically means he didn't make final fours because that is what they expect at Indiana.

And the job he left (Marquette) to go to Indiana is a better job than Nebraska.

Finally something basketball we can agree on. Actually we both really want the same thing.
Where have I stated that Miles should be fired? I am just not gonna act like he should be here just because "he's the coach and has my support herpity derp derp"
