Why all the excitement?!
- No HC experience
- No obvious ties to NJ
- Good pedigree working with Meyer and Bielema.
- Didn't Nova's (and Flood) beat Ash's defense at Arkansas twice?

I bet you even Rossi can coach that OSU defense to a national top ten

1. Flood & Nova beat his defense once
2. He has been great with Urban and Bielma (including coaching a national championship defense)
3. Many guys have not had HC experience and gone on to great careers: in fact, hasn't every coach started somewhere with no HC experience?
4. Ties to NJ don't matter. He is the closer; keep guys like Barthel, Panagos, etc to get the guys in here and Ash seals the deal

Plenty of reasons to be very excited for this hire.

why? because was a major reason behind last year OSU's NC run.

he has the best story to sell to the recruits out of all realistic candidates we were looking at outside of Schiano.

First, he was only at Arkansas one year and second, how come the guy before Ash didn't have OSU's defense ranked where it was the last two years?

What's the deal with NJ ties? The best kids have been leaving NJ for other schools and each of our HC have had NJ ties.

Why? Because it would be a refreshing change to step away from the SCHIANO, FLOOD, GOLDEN world and move forward. From what I've read, he is the no nonsense straight forward coach Rutgers need right now. He may have had pure studs at Ohio State but some of my OSU friends are like AHH SH--!!! with their loss.

Wisconsin was shut out in last year's B1G CCG.

When in the past two years has Ohio State struggled on defense? Every time they had even a close game it was because the offense was not gelling.

His defenses at Wisconsin were solid like in the teens 20s I think and OSU's defense improved after he came on board. Arkansas was 1 year so hard to say much good or bad about that. It's such a short time to give much of an outlook. If it had improved that would have been a very good sign but it stayed the same from a year before but also only a year's worth of work to judge.

-1. So what?
-2. Neither did Harbaugh and he raided NJ. Keep Barthel and we're fine. Getting top NJ kids on campus isn't our issue. This "NJ ties" argument is so pointless. He just needs to close the kids out which Flood couldn't.
-3. This is correct
-4. We only beat his Defense once and it was Ron Prince's Offense, not "Nova's" or "Flood's".

its good to have a coach who understands what top players look like. Ash has seen what a national championship team needs to look like and behave like. Thats important.

Hahaha, oh man, our fans are stupid.

This is an amazing hire. You just wait. There's a reason OSU super fans are dreading it.

This is not Shea, Anderson or Graber... this is nabbing the national champion's defensive coordinator. You know the guy who shut down Alabama and Oregon? You know the guy who has absolutely dismantled our offense in both years we've played them? You know the guy who has gotten his defense ranked up to #2 in the country?

Meyer has proven many times over that he is an excellent judge of coaching talent. Ash is high energy, young, and aggressive... but also really about discipline and getting the most out of each student-athletes. He's also bright, and you can instantly see his football knowledge when he talks.

The NJ recruiting connection is overblown. A great coach attracts great players. We have plenty of talent in the 'state of rutgers' to field a great team... we just need the coach to lead them. This guy was a solid recruiter everywhere he went, and he's going to continue that trend.

Ash >>>>>>>> Golden

Mullen, Schiano and Chip Kelly were not coming here. With what was on the table, getting the national champion's d coordinator is a big, big win. Can't wait for next year.
