if it is indeed true that Conner was running 4th team TB....

then our RB's are without a doubt in great shape for the upcoming season

Conner was a great young talent and anybody that watched the Spring Game can see he was going to be a good RB

...I would think. There's Elliott, Perkins, Ballard, Griffin, and Conner. I expect Griffin to redshirt.

Conner would get some carries as a redshirt freshman. Perkins will line up all over the field, and the majority of the carries will go to Elliott and Ballard. I'd say that it's unlikely that Conner would be a feature back in Mullen's offense, but I bet he would get significant playing time over the course of his career.

I don't remember Florida having a feature back under Meyer. They seem to do things by committee all the time.

I have said since the end of last season that our running game is going to look a lot more like Florida's going forward. No featured back, butalways two or threethat will have anywherefrom 500 to 800 APYa year.

Conner running fourth string probably has more to do with the ability to block and pick up pass protection than the others being great.

Lots of great HS RBs get to college and realize that the team isn't going to sacrifice their QB by playing them when they can't properly block. It takes a few years for some RBs to learn to block. It was something they rarely did in college.

We have had the same problems. Cordera Eason wasn't a great back with the ball in his hands, but he got snaps over better RBs due to his blocking. Dex's came out of games when we knew we needed a blocking back out their. Enrique Davis has struggled with the blocking aspect of playing RB in the SEC.

And I know some people will think that its something that can be taught in a short period of time, but it isn't. It's the mental aspect of putting yourself in front of a locomotive that's hard.

because the other RB's were more complete than he was at this point. And that's what you want out of your RB's. If he was clearly better than the others running the rock- his *** wouldnt have been working with the 4th group no matter how bad his pass-blocking was.

Basically, there were 3 other backs out-playing him right now for playing time- and to me, and most other people, that's a real good sign when that type of player is struggling to move up the depth chart

If you listen to some people on BDJ and probably some here, they make it sound like it's a done deal that he was moving to LB. I have no idea why that rumor seems to have sprung up. Why would Mullen have him practicing at RB all spring & make a change during fall practice? Especially after looking so good during the spring game? He may have the tools to be a good LB, but if his head & heart aren't in it he'd never amount to anything.

My opinion - it doesn't matter where any of these guys are at on the depth chart. They are all 4 going to get a chance to prove themselves unless Ballard or Elliott just dominates early on. Hope this is just a 1 or 2 day thing & he's not gone for good. We're going to need him at some point during the year.

Is there any experience coming back at the RB position? I know Elliot has played, but he's never been particularly effective. Are all of the other guys in the rotation new?

And more complete includesblocking.

He can begood with the rock and be at a total loss when it comes to blocking.I'm not taking anything away from your RBs. I'm just stating thathe could be one of your better guys with the ball in his hands and still play behind Ballard or Elliot if he doesn't block well.

Wehave this issue with Enrique Davis. He is damn good at toting the rock. Same thing for Devin Thomas. He is a good RB with the ball in his hands, but he can't block. Therefore he stays buried on the depth chart.

It doesn't matter how much experience they have... They are on the 2 deep so they must be good.... Using Rebel logic of course...

I think with serious knee injuries like he had it takes a full 12 months to recover, so he probably wasn't 100% for the first part of the season. Other than that, no real experience but we have several young backs andan All-American JUCO transfer we feel pretty good about. It's hard to think that at least one or two won't step up and be effective. The main thing though, it we return 4 starters from a pretty good offensive line. That'll be a big help to whoever's playing RB.

I actually thought he looked pretty average, he didn't seem to have as much burst or quickness, and ran a little high... Plus, you don't see many RB's that are 6'2" or 6'3" and lanky like he was. He's built more like a WR now and a future LB, as most RB's are shorter with lower centers of gravity.

Most of the great ones have a build like Ingram.

Or maybe he's such a good athlete that we need to find a spot for him on the field. Maybe the other RBs are really playing well enough to stay ahead of him.
