you Rebel fans or even State fans that are going to attempt to say this isnt a HR for us can eat a dick. After hiring Jackie and two nobody's in Felker and Crooms within the last 22 years, Wilson is off the charts.

I talked about Nutt being a good hire for Mississippi when they hired him. I'm not saying this with maroon-colored glasses on. This will be a ****** HR for us. Mark my words, QB's and WR's are about to step on campus quicker than they have the last 10 years.

Nutt's one year easy ride is over bitches...it's on now...oh, and f*uck you Rebels

Wow, Coach... Those are the most favorable statements towards State i've ever heard come outta your mouth. Ha..

I think Wilson would be a HR for us even though he's been my #3 all along behind Petersen and Patterson. So, I'd be WELL pleased.

If you have to compare it to something we can fathom, you compare it to Larry Fedora to USM. Obvioulsy, Wilson is a much bigger name than Fedora. State is a much better job than USM.

What staff is he going to bring? answer: none.

I would have no faith in him turning it around next year and I will save my money and stay home.

wtf man, just try to be honest. You know GD well that the best OC in the country is a HR, as much of one as Nutt was when he was hired. I'm not saying we should expect the same results, but based on resume this is just about as good as when yall hired nutt (if it's true)

I agree with your point, though, relative to the last three hires (as you pointed out).

I'll say it's a solid triple (IF true).

I am sure he has learned a little over the years especially working under the highest paid coach in college football.

All of them would be great hires but Petersen and Patterson have already proven what they can do as headcoaches. Wilson and Mullens have boatloads of potential. Either one and I will be doing backflips (figuratively since this fatboy can't actually do a backflip without hurting himself and/or others).

I agree. Bringing in of the top if not the top OC in the country will definitely be a HR hire. Having a guy who ran an offense that put up 702 points in a season will do nothing but help get offensive players here

I want to see the rest of the coaching staff before I call it a homerun. If we don't have someone who can recruit then we are screwed and we will be in the same boat in four years. If he brings in the QB's and more importantly the development of those QB's than that will be something thats never been done before here and a good start.</p>

I would be more hesitant about Mullen since he has been with Urban Meyer at every stop. Wilson has proven that he runs the offense at 2 different schools.

Second, Nutt was a proven head coach when OM hired him. He won 3 West titles in 10 years, and developed talent very well. To say that hiring an OC is on that level is pretty ludicrous. I do think it'll probably be a significant upgrade over Croom though.

an OC to come in and start recruiting while the whole time trying to assemble a staff. And what does he assemble? bits and pieces of people he may know and those unemployed. Yeh, odds against stellar staff and holding together a nice looking recruiting class.

Thats a stacked deck. 3-9 to 5-7 record next year.

Come on.

You mean to tell me that if you were an OC or DC that you have not rose in the morning thinking about if you were head coach. Who would I hire, where would they come from what offense do they run?
He probably already has a list of candidates and that search will go along much better than the Head coach search will.

Also, I am sure Byrne is not going to kick back now and watch one of his two hires suffer. Greg will be helping out with all the details as well i am sure.

And Jesus Petersen wouldn't have had to do the same thing? Was his entire staff in full going to blindly follow him across the country? Petersen coming from Idaho has better contacts than a Wilson who is at the #1 team in the country and has attended school and coached east of the Mississippi for his entire career? WHOEVER is coaching at MSU next year is looking at 5 wins max barring a miracle. Petersen's a great head coach and I would have loved to have him, but you've obviously put him on a very high pedestal above any mere mortal.

That's like Vandy scoring 42 per game. Earl, dude you need to do see a professional. Who's he going to bring with him? Are you kidding me? Who did Mangini bring with him to Kansas? Does it matter, if you are outscoring everybody you play with an average defense. That is what we will have next year at the worst is an average SEC offense, middle of the pack. If our offense can put up 21 plus points per game, we will be fine. Hell any offensive production is better than what we have had.

Yeh, i'm sure they do. Doing it is another matter. Interviews, flights, phone calls, negotiations....People dont stop everything to interview for asst coaching jobs if they have jobs or at succesful programs. The new coach will have to waste time doing that when we need him recruiting and meeting the team we already have.

I have assembled crews for large jobs. it takes more than a month to find the right people.

A head coach would bring his staff or a large portion of it.

With the guys we have coming back on the OL, I doubt Saban could do much better than 5-7 next year. I seriously doubt anyone could get us to a bowl game next year with the schedule we have. You don't want to hear it, but it will take time.

proven HC doesn't mean better. Even with TT impressive resume I would rather have wilson and I think most of the state fans on this board would agree. Nutt had several blemishes on an overall very good resume - very good hire but it wasn't as though he was the most sure fire thing out there.

"A head coach would bring his staff or a large portion of it"

How many did Nutt bring to Mississippi? How many did Petrino bring to UPig?

You might want to do some research before answering

You think an OC at a national power doesn't already have in mind who he would get to be on his staff? Besides that, it's been done successfully only dozens of times by other people. What the hell is wrong with some of ya'll?? Jeebus Q. Christcicle. Wilson would be a tremendous coup for us.

And we're gonna suck next year no matter who the coach is. We have very limited talent, in case you didn't notice.

If you gonna rebuttle then bring the proof and do it for all BCS scools that have had a coach change with a then currently active head coach.

How many did Tubby bring to Auburn? What about Mack Brown from NC? answer that biotch.

Not sure of it's a home run or not. But it sure is a deep, high fly ball. The question I have is: How many men are on base, and is the opposing pitcher tired?
