how we are getting (if true) the top offensive coordinator in the nation and we're not happy about it? At the very least, this is an inside the park home run.

and not a great start for Wilson at NW. Cant hold that against him, I mean I dont know the situation.

Not sure of it's a home run or not. But it sure is a deep, high fly ball. The question I have is: How many men are on base, and is the opposing pitcher tired?

Burke Masters at bat, or David Heyman ?

If Wilson is hired, do you take Coach's place as the dumb **** we all get to not like?

Just wondering.

Oh yeah - If not a HR, a bases loaded triple off the top of the wall.

No assistant coach hire can ever be considered a HR in my book. It may turn out to be a great hire, but when you hire a coordinator, rarely do people stand up and take notice.

He may be the next Tubberville, Richt, etc., but you can't call it a HR at the time of the hire.

And for the record, even though Nutt had head coaching experience, I don't think he was a HR hire either. A very good hire, but it wasn't a HR that made the rest of the conference stand up and take notice.

that occurred last season, and you then rebutt with changes that occurred 10 years ago? That makes sense

You have not shown me any thing to substantiate your claims.

What about Saban from Michigan State and Miles from OK State to LSU? some of Saban's staff stayed after he left for the Dolphins that sure helped Miles out. But go look at their staffs from the colleges they left and where they landed.

Show me the proof of what you speak.

I want to see the rest of the coaching staff before I call it a homerun. If we don't have someone who can recruit then we are screwed and we will be in the same boat in four years. If he brings in the QB's and more importantly the development of those QB's than that will be something thats never been done before here and a good start.</p>

And that's the biggest problem with hiring an assistant. He'll have to go out and find 9 assistants, and honestly I think assistants are underrated, at least by the average Joe fan. Inexperienced assistant coaches was one of Orgeron's biggest problems. Experienced assistants are also one of Nutt's greatest assets. Whoever you hire as head coach is obviously the most important thing, but a whole bunch depends on what kind of DC and OC the guy can find, what kind of line coaches and QB coach he can find (the most important position coach spots in my opinion) and what kind of recruiters he can find for the rest of the staff.

Three in 10 years at Arkansas is pretty damn good.

Expect that number to drop to 15% if he stays at UM for 10 years.

Rebs, call someone you know to help with the math.

So does that mean we will win the west outright one year and co another? And if we win the Co do we get to go to Atlanta that time too? Either way its better than the 0% the last 16 years.

Yea, and I obviously didn't think that was a HR hire either. I think there are only a handful of hires that can ever be considered HR hires, and I don't think anyone in the country has made a HR hire this year. There is no hire that has made waves nationally or even regionally this year.

Lane Kiffen...meh. Sarkisian....probably a good hire, but no waves. Wilson...maybe a good hire, but nothing to put the SEC on notice.

I think what he means is, 3/10 = 30%.

If Nutt stays at Ole Miss for another 10 years... let's see here... ah, that's it. 3/20 = 15%.

And no, if what Predestined is implying comes to pass, 0/10 is not better than 0/16.

Me personally, I think he might get you there though.

Just not an OC/DC because I believe they are hamstrung on hitting the ground running.

I'm just saying that I don't see it making waves. Until 2 days ago, I had no idea who this Wilson guy was, and the only reason I know about him today is because of you guys. I'm betting it was the same way for a lot of you. He wasn't exactly a hot name in all the national searches. He may be a great hire, but I don't see where you'd think that it would be a coup. Landing Chris Petersen would've made more waves for sure. For that matter, landing Tommy Tuberville would've made more waves.

They played "I-Formation" ball his first year at Northwestern, in order an try to control the clock. But when they found out they couldn't stop anybody on defense, they figured they'd try and outscore them. Hence, the difference between the 1st year at NW, and the rest of the story...

you Rebel fans or even State fans that are going to attempt to say this isnt a HR for us can eat a dick. After hiring Jackie and two nobody's in Felker and Crooms within the last 22 years, Wilson is off the charts.

I talked about Nutt being a good hire for Mississippi when they hired him. I'm not saying this with maroon-colored glasses on. This will be a ****** HR for us. Mark my words, QB's and WR's are about to step on campus quicker than they have the last 10 years.

Nutt's one year easy ride is over bitches...it's on now...oh, and f*uck you Rebels
I don't consider anyone less than a proven head coach to be a 'home run.' That being said, I think it's a decent hire, and I certainly couldn't have done better. Y'all did officially offer Petersen, right? It's not the best year to be looking for a head coach. Not the worst, but not the best, either.

both won the award for top assistant, both were in the NC game. That in no way means he turns out like Cut, but if he is a home run, than Cut was too.

If you have to compare it to something we can fathom, you compare it to Larry Fedora to USM. Obvioulsy, Wilson is a much bigger name than Fedora. State is a much better job than USM.
That's funny that you mention that. USM interviewed Wilson, but passed him over to take Fedora. Wilson has/had much more to work with than Fedora when he was at OSU. I'm not convinced Wilson is all that. If you remember, last year Kevin Sumlin (now Houston's coach) was Co-OC at Oklahoma. I think I could be a good OC with Sam Bradford at QB(and no Wilson didn't recruit Bradford).

Some of us weren't all that impressed with the job the Hat did this year in a weak CUSA (Conference of Unwanted Schools of America) schedule. Color me unimpressed. OSU didn't seem to miss a beat Hatless. Auburn moved the ball at will on you guys. And those who want to throw up the "but they won four straight", just shut the 17 up. It wasn't exactly a murders row.
