Do you think him refusing more money to move will put ice on the crazy numbers that schools and their financial backing are offering to pull top tier coaches?

If he jumps ship to another school, it would seem it keeps the "arms race" at full throttle, but if he stays, it just seems that it could give schools some leverage to chill the market.

these buyout numbers are just nuts

I don't think he will refuse more money to leave. He is still a young guy, has a long time to live and spend. If anyone offers him a substantial raise I don't care what he or Sexton has said in the past, he will take a big raise and go wherever

he might be happy as a clam finishing between 5 and 10 every year, hitting the ceiling at his current program

The competition for coaches with names that will make insane/wealthy fan bases happy is going to be fierce whether Lane throws his hat in the ring or not. Expect dumb contracts to continue.

LSU will be too attractive.
I think this nonsense with the governor being involved and athletic director being cut out of the loop makes LSU the single most unattractive job out there

I think the LSU head coaching gig, currently, is getting the phone number to the face tattoo girl in the "women I can fix" thread, and actually calling her for a date and following through with the date

Both paths give ample opportunity to put it in crazy.

One coach isn’t going to stop these ridiculous contracts. Not even slow it down. And no matter what Kifin said about “it’s not the money”, I’ll bet whatever anyone wants to his contract has significantly more pay in it no matter if it’s at UM or elsewhere.

it’s going to be compounded because of the higher expectations with NIL and facilities arms races that boosters are going to have to cut checks for. The less job security, the more that’s going to be commanded.

And the fragile bubble keeps growing larger and larger.

I don't make money in the same time zone as what these coaches make but this is my take. If somebody is happy where they are does it really matter if you make an extra 3 mill? What is 15 mill going to allow you to buy that 12 mill won't in 99% of the country?

If he goes he'll get more money no doubt and I'm sure quite a bit more but with these kinda guys it's about where you can win a championship. He can do that at LSU.

It's not about the raise. He's getting the raise wherever he lands. It's about the school's commitment to paying talent. That's the deciding factor for a guy who wants to win a championship.

if he doesn't move this year ...his stock will never be higher....he has lucked out with easy schedules and still hasn't won a big game....he may make the playoff this year without winning a game against a team that will finish the year ranked playing in a conference that has the most teams ranked.
what's up with all of the ellipses when a period would do just fine?

I don’t make money in the same time zone either, but if people generally didn’t care about an extra million when it doesn’t really change what they can buy, coaching contracts wouldn’t have made it to the 8 figures a year to begin with.

ETA: not the same thing, but I suspect there are a lot of people on this board making an amount of money that they would have considered rich when they were 20, that still would have trouble turning down a job with a $100K pay raise. Hell, most would probably have trouble turning down a $50k pay raise.

I think it comes down to pride and ego. Just the fact that they can say they're making that much.

He said that it isn't about money which means he more than likely will leave, not stay. Ole miss can come close with the money which yall are all saying. So what's next, everything else which guess what, lsu, Florida can offer. Stop listening to your ole miss friends that have always been blinded by their delusion of 'how great it is there'.
On top of that why has he not signed yet if he is staying.

Ole miss rationality. It's not about the money but we can get the money.. so.. he's saying that's not what it's about. Why do yall keep harping on the money being close. He's wanting to win a championship. He can't do it with a down sec with a fluff schedule. The teams are all about to upgrade coaching. They have way more resources. Again he saying it's not about money.

There are too many actual blue blood jobs open, not just the powder blue blood one he has. Lane has coached/managed nil and transfers well enough to make the short list at most of these schools. After winning at Oklahoma, they may even try to make a change for Lane. End of the day, he'll do what's best for him financially and professionally. Baring OM way overpaying, Lane will find a better opportunity elsewhere.

I don't know if he'll leave or not. I hope he leaves.
But if he leaves Ole Miss, it won't be because they can't pay him enough. No, they don't have LSU money. But it's a whole lot easier to pay top of market salary when you've got something established than it is to spend the same money *hoping* the next guy can do it.
If he leaves, it will be because he thinks he can accomplish more elsewhere. That simple.
I'm not sure he believes he's hit some kind of ceiling. I mean, he's 7-1 and will be heavily favored in every game remaining. That's in what should have been a rebuilding year after they lost a first-round quarterback. Sure, it's a favorable schedule. But what's their record if they swapped schedules with us? There's no guarantee they'd be any worse than they are now (albeit with still a tough game against Georgia).

It’s probably easy to think and say it’s not about the money until Sexton calls you and says UF is offering $12 million per year as a base with other incentives. They are all in on you Kiff and want you to tell them how to manage the program, etc.

This is just more proof for the sad state of affairs in college football. College football has not been an "even playing field" for 70 years. Like the Olympics teams they have figured out how to bypass the rules and fix the system to favor them. The teams represented the student body at one time with most of the roster coming from state high schools. Coaches were paid according to professor salaries. All the $$$ have destroyed a sport I used to love. Rosters like coaches are mercenaries going to the highest bidders. Now it has become a bottomless pit to throw money into if you want to win a championship. It just doesn't matter anymore.

My opinion...

Too many of y'all care too much about what Kiffin and Ole Miss does. I don't care if he leaves or stays. There's nothing about Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss that scares me as a state fan. I don't put any stock in what they're doing having any impact on what we're doing. Some of y'all have this massive inferiority complex that presents every time they have some success.

The egg bowl rivalry is cyclical. Always has been, always will be. Ole Miss will regress (even if Kiffin stays), we will get better. Wash, rinse, repeat. We're morally and ethically superior to them, so I don't know why anyone wastes their time worrying about them.

Per Ross Dellinger- OM has already made attempts at a new contract with Kiffy Bear..

Sounds like Kiffy Bear has said I’ll just wait on this for a bit…… seeing what the other offers are.
