If MSU beats FL and then beats Vandy...

and then loses to probably UK, does that get MSU in?<div>
</div><div>I know it may be dependent on what other teams do, but that would be two wins over alleged tourney teams.</div><div>
</div><div>By the way, the fact that Illinois is still being listed as in, is a joke. They are crashing right now, and I know they had some solid early wins, but they are absolutely tanking right now. If they go 1 and done in the big ten tourney they should be out.</div><div>
</div><div>I got to watch the MSU/UT game and was just stunned with the way MSU played. I said last week I thought MSU would win by 10+, and evidently UT is playing really well right now, which doesn't bode well for Ole Miss.</div>

Florida. If somehow we can shoot our way past Florida, Vandy will crush us in front of a home crowd.

as the first team listed, just ahead of UM. For your scenario to play out, I think we would need lots of help - i.e. major and mid-major tourneys are all won by the favorites and a few bubble teams ahead of us lay absolute eggs.

I don't think it's impossible, but I don't think it's likely. Of course, to get even to where you're talking about, we have to beat Florida and Vandy, who we are 0-2 against this year. Just like the rest of this year (and last), we need to get hot from outside. If we can do that, we can beat just about anybody.

ETA - be sure to change the date on your watches on March 1...

I don't think the semi-finals of the SECT are going to havemuch effect on the NCAA bids. The selection committee will have picked the teams to get bids before the semis are played and will be working on the seeding and scheduling of the tournament on Saturday, not on who will or won't be in it.

I think it will be considered. They don't set the bracket until the last hour or 2 before the selection show.

All I know about his most recent bracket is that he had us as his 4th team in the First 4 Out, and I would assume that your loss to UT dropped you from the Next 4 Out altogether.

I'm and idiot. Checked the date on my watch and I apparently haven't worn it since February.

I have been banging that drum for weeks but they should have to win their conference tourney to even be considered. We flat out don't deserve a bid unless we win the SECT and their resume is as bad as ours.</p>

...beat Florida & Vandy in the SEC tournment & MSU is in.

I don't have the math to back it up like 615dawg, but my gut feeling tells me yes.

Going into last week, we needed three wins to get in. That has not changed.

In fact, beating Florida and Vanderbilt would only get us back up even to where we started last week. We would need to win the third game. Obviously, we are definitely in if we won three, but if you throw out the automatic bid part, we would barely be on the upside of the bubble if we were to beat Florida, Vandy and Kentucky to win the SEC Tourmament. (e.g. about four or five conference upsets would knock us out even with three wins)

Gonna have to win the tournament folks. For the Ole Miss fans, I think you need one to be in barring a bunch of upsets, two might get you in regardless. But your route is Tennessee/Kentucky. I also think Florida needs to win one. If they were to be upset in the first round, I'd be worried.

The one thing that is not being discussed is the benefit the team gets just by playing UK. It helps your SOS just playing a top 3 team in the country.<div>
</div><div>If MSU beats FL, Vandy, and plays UK that is two solid wins, and another strong game for SOS. Barring a bunch of conference upsets, I think y'all would get in.</div><div>
</div><div>What we need to be worried about is Memphis and UAB making deep runs in the CUSA tourney. UCONN or South Florida getting to the semis or Finals. Illinois winning a game in the Big Ten Tourney, two games would really hurt. A team other than Cal winning the Pac 10 tourney. We need Washington and ASU to lose early and we don't need any surprises from conferences that I don't know what teams are even in their conference.</div><div>
</div><div>Its pretty easy for both MSU and OM. For OM, beat UT and you get to watch the selection show and hope. For MSU beat FL and Vandy and you get to watch the selection show. If those things don't happen, you can play golf on Sunday and not worry about seeing if you got in.</div><div>

I've said Kennedy needed 3 straight wins to get in the Tourney. He has 2 of them. Beating Tennessee would get them in I think. And if they beat Tennessee, I think they deserve to go.

We'll see what happens

And they'd better hope like hell there are no upsets that turn a 1-bid league into a 2-bid league. Their RPI is still only #57 and I doubt a win over Tennessee would move them up all that much.

with other teams. Though so far almost everything has been going right, so maybe it's about time for the other shoe to drop. I think it's possible we get in with a loss, if the right teams lose. Doubtful, but possible.

I hate to admit that, but it's true.

One good thing that will come out of it, though. Heads will roll in Starkville, in some form or another.

I think the reason why Lunardi has them in is because their record is borderline, but their SOS and RPI are very good, and he said something about no team has ever been left out with 3 wins over top 25 RPI teams, or something similar to that.

UCONN being in is even worse than Illinois. I know that they have 4 high-quality wins, but they are like 17-14. That's NIT quality. Unfortunately for the other bubble teams, Calhoun being gone for 7 games (they went 3-4) will probably get them into the Tourney.

... If this basketball team actually goes on a 2 game winning streak in this tournament, I'll gladly allow your math to take my gut feeling behind the woodshed.

Because MSU going on a 2 game winning streak in theSEC tournament will be, by far, the most exiciting stretch of basketball this team has played all year.
