If MSU is looking at an OC from UF, then...

we are spinning our wheels and rubbing **** in our hair.

Mullen is going to do a damn thing for MSU. 17ing fooling yourselves if you think that would be a great hire. Mullen is orchestrating Meyers scheme. Mullen could be a turd or a gem. Why take the chance?

We should be going for a head coach at Utah, Boise or TCU, maybe Tulsa.

I can't get over some of you people.

We DID go after Boise's HC. It didn't work. Whittingham to State makes NO sense, and who's to say that we didn't offer him. Patterson said no thanks. Graham, meh.

Did yall not read 8dog's post the other day showing where all the successful coaches in the nation came from? Most were coordinators before they got their big shot.

You act like it is a BIG risk for us to hire Mullen. What a joke. Any hire is going to be a risk, unless we are talking about Mike Tomlin or Bill Cowher. The bigger risk is the risk Mullen would be taking to leave his prime spot and lay his career on the line for a team that hasn't had a high-powered offense, well, ever.

Edited to add: Going back to Graham. You "we have to get a proven HC" people fail to realize that a guy like Graham is just 3 years removed from a coordinator position AT TULSA. This guy has never coached in the big time.

What makes you think we haven't? What happens if they turn us down? I'll take Wilson/Mullen over Gill/Dooley/Bowden.

what makes you think he can compete with the likes of Saban, Richt, Miles, Meyer, Spurrier, Nutt and Petrino? Bowden has 6-6/5-7 written all over him.

I feel ya. We all got burned by Croom, but we are not talking about an NFL position coach that has not coached in college for decades.

These coordinators are eating and breathing recruiting, etc.

Sure, Bowden is a known commodity, but we also know what his ceiling is. I can see where an argument can be made that Bowden would be a better hire, but aren't you ready for something different?

We need something dynamic, original and new. We need excitement. And yes, we can afford to take another risk. Where have you been for the last 60 years? Another 3-4 years of sucktitude isn't going to all of the sudden land us in CUSA. It is time to get a young, energetic, system guru like Mullen or Wilson and see if they can work their magic at state and break this pattern of ineptitude. Petersen would be perfect for this, because he has the experience and the system, but we can't get him. "Falling back" on either of these guys is an astonishing feat if pulled off by Byrne.

last national championship - I think most of our fans would have been thrilled with that idea.

This is the equivalent. We are talking about the two coordinators of the two best offenses in football.

coordinators being OC/DC before becoming HC is valid, but in our case I think we need a guy who has HC experience because of the players that we have and the other coaches in the SEC. We need someone that can coach them up and someone with some HC experience is more likely to do that than a coordinator who will have a learning curve.

As of right now- depending on who MSU and Auburn hire- there is only one coach in the SEC who took over without having any HC experience, and that's Mark Richt. Many have been head coaches either in the NFL- Saban, Kiffen, Brooks, Petrino, and Spurrier and/or have won NC's- Saban, Meyer, Miles, and Spurrier. Then you have Bobby Johnson who won a D-I-AA NC at Furman. The only two coaches I haven't mentioned are Nutt- who has won at Arkanasas and Ole Miss and has made the Wildcat one of the hottest formations in pro/college football right now, and Richt who is a pretty good coach. Plus, I would say it would be easier for a coordinator to step into a a job at Georgia than MSU.

This is what our new coach is going to be going up against. We need someone that knows what the heck they are doing, and not have a doubt about it.
