I know some may want him to fail for whatever reason including loyalty to the preceding coach. However there is a difference between wanting him to fail and noticing his failings. I like his recruiting, defense and I like his PR/schmoozing of donors. I don't like his team's lack of discipline. I don't like his rigid adherence to Doege and an offensive system that doesn't utilize what little talent WVU does have effectively. I don't like his discombobulated use of time outs.
6-6 in year 3 doesn't inspire a lot of hope. I know, as some have pointed out, that a number of coaches at WVU's level with a 3rd year coach did similarly. However, most if not all of them are going to go onto have average careers at those schools and never really compete for a conference championship. I want whoever coaches WVU to have success for WVU's sake and not the coach's. I just do not want another Dana situation where a coach keeps stringing fans and admin along with just a glimmer of hope without ever really delivering.
Honestly...comparing what other WVU coaches did in year three is kinda of stupid.
It's a different day and different time in football.
You think what Nehlen did playing independent football or Stewart in a watered down Big East is the same as what Neal is doing in 2021?
Look at the rosters in Neal's three years...just how much talent was there. If you want to be low IQ like Bucky and say he ran them off...fine...but to inherit a roster with little talent like he did...I don't know what people expect.
It takes time to rebuild. We have morons here that think WVU can go get five Heisman hopefuls in the portal and be 13-0 next year. It doesn't work that way.
We have so many low IQ posters here that say "So you are fine with WVU being average."....no....I am okay willing to give a coach in a rebuild some time to get it right.
Should there be improvement in year four? You are damn right there better be....but to turn on a coach after three seasons, one which was a mess with COVID, isn't living in the real world. Those are the dumbass fair-weather fans that want 12 wins every year.
