If Not Your Team, Who?

If your team cannot win a state title this year, who would you like to see win and why?

First pick would probably be the Dinwiddie Generals. They suffered a tough loss in last year's championship game, and I know how those kinds of losses linger. Their coach seems to be a stand-up guy who is committed to succeeding the right way. And they have a dedicated fan base led by two guys, DP and BN, that seem to be good blokes.

Next choice would be Woodgrove. They were the second-most consistent team in 4A North/West during that era. The Wolverines also tasted some major disappointment last season, when they seemed primed for a serious state title run. They'll get there one day, so (if not Salem or Dinwiddie) why not this year?

And my sentimental choice would be Carroll County. I've given them the business a lot over the last few years, but that's only because their administration and coaches in different sports have seen fit to throw some subtle shade at Salem for no reason. I've obviously never had anything against the kids toiling away to win one or two games on the gridiron each year. The whole Carroll County community could really use some good news, and nothing brings a community together (especially rural communities) like a sports team (especially football) reaching never-before achieved pinnacles of success. So - let's go Cavaliers!!

Aside from my Generals I would love to see Monacan get a title. Coach Henderson coached at Dinwiddie and I respect their program a lot. My second choice would be GW Danville. Danville Sports Head deserves something to crow about. I did not choose Salem, because Mike is getting a rather big head and I don't want him getting greedy. Due to my history with Hoos, you guys are going to think I am crazy, but for sentimental reason and Coach Fisher I wouldn't mind Louisa sending a dedicated man out on top.

Class exudes from you sir. Not because you chose Dinwiddie, but your honesty and the way you show respect on this board. Thanks for being you!

That's kind of you to say. Over the years I've been told many things exude from me, but I'm not sure "class" has been among them.
LOL. You are quite witty as well. Some may say smart a$*, but a lot of us are that way. Sometimes humor and sarcasm is the way to go on this board. Keep posting sir. Enjoy your comments thoroughly. I must admit its been a long time since I have been called a bloke. I guess the last time occurred at a British Pub in Richmond called Penny Lane. Great place to hang out and watch sports. I enjoy the EPL and there is no better place to grab a pint of black and tan (Guinness and Becks) and watch Liverpool mix it up. Don't grill me too hard fellows, but yes I enjoy watching international soccer/futbol. I know it started with the cable and the Madison Square Garden Network. The New York Cosmos (NASL) with Georgio Chinalia, Pele, Ken Furthy and Franz Beckenbauer were fun to watch. Wow, what memories and enjoyment MSGN brought me. The NY Rangers, WWF Wrestling with Bob Backland and both NY baseball teams.

Lol. I guess I deserved that. I never said I was good at soccer, football, baseball or ultimate frisbee for that matter, but there are very few sports I dont enjoy watching.

Heck yesterday I saw the craziest sport on espnu. India and Iran were competing in a sport that looked like tag with tackling involved. Its called Kabaddi. I watched it for an hour. I looked it up and it draws sellout crowds. It will be banned soon due to high number of head injuries.

Whoever the underdog is, unless the underdog is a Winchester area team. I don't think I could live through the following year of gloating if Millbrook, Handley, or James Wood won a championship. I've been reminded very often of the Millbrook win over Sherando last year (all in good fun, of course).

Burn Wood.
Hang Handley.
And... uh, well Millbrook doesn't really have a clever catchphrase as far as I'm aware.

Reminds me of the old Clarke County cheer...."Kick em, bust em, that's our custom. Hit em in the head with a brick. Huh!!!!"

I know this is the 4a board but how about John Marshall? I hear Phillip Simms is doing big things in Northside Richmond. I look for that program to be good soon. They've built a literal all star basketball team over there and I think they'll do the same for football.

DSH... I would root for it but I seriously doubt it. Just not enough resources and tough home situations.

If Maxpreps can be believed, he got a ton of kids to come out this year. We shall see. ANYTHING positive in that neighborhood is a great thing.

I had no idea that kids from Henrico and Chesterfield who don't get into Maggie Walker can go to Richmond Community and those kids can play at Marshall. I know 2 kids that live out past UR that went that route. Which explains how Marshall can get those big time players for basketball.
