they would have been going on and on and writing articles left and right about how these guys are super recruiters. They would repeat it over and over. All the while, their main boosters would be at the ready. If questions are raised, they just start repeating what great recruiters the coaches are. I haven't really seen any of this from our side so far.

To quote Forest Gump: Recruiters are as recruiters sign.

Let's see what they can do. Hope they can coach up some football players because you are experiencing a pretty big coaching turnover. Not really a good sign for football program. Hope they can immediately establish relationships w/ local programs because that often takes time. Seems a little desperate to me. In year five, i would hope for more stability. Its nice to have Texas steal your dc, but having to terminate coach after coach, or having them leave pissed off is very different. Its one thing to lose diaz in '11 but yet another to have to run off others.

Typical OM attempt at a negative slant, but as long as we are upgrading our staff I'm good with it and that is exactly what we've done. Wilson had 2 years as DC to show he was the man for the job. We declined a little in both years on defense under Wilson in my view so I was good with making the move especially since our biggest weakness this year was the position he coached (DL). Turner is a known commodity as a DL coach here who already has ties in the MS HSs from his previous stint and I think Collins will be significantly better than Wilson at DC but time will tell. Melvin is a good coach but he's way past his prime and wasn't helping us on the recruiting trail like he used to so I don't think anyone lost sleep over him leaving. Townsend gives us a young up and comer that should also relate well with recruits. And replacing Sallach with Gonzales as an on field coach is a major upgrade plus Gonzales is a big time recruiter. Most all MSU fans I know are elated with the changes but we deeply appreciate you heart felt concern.

Most Ole Miss fans are like my uncle. They love telling you what State needs to do (or what they are doing wrong). My father finally told my uncle to shut up & worry about Ole Miss.

It's amazing that some of you simply cannot help but measure our program by ours. What exactly does our new hires have to do with Ole Miss whatsoever?

Are we? Last I checked of the 10 original coaches(9+S&C) -- we currently employ 7. That's Mullen, Knox, Hughes, Hevesy, Koenning, Turner, Balis. Really 8 since Sallach is still with the program just not on the field. That's not some tremendous turnover like you are projecting.

Not really a good sign for football program.
Since when? Had Nutt fixed the defense when it was OBVIOUS he had major problems in 2010, you would probably have just been to your 4th bowl game in 5 years. Where would your program be right NOW had Cutcliffe been willing to make changes on the defensive side? You would have run off a streak of 14-15 bowl games and be considered nationally on the approximate level of Auburn, probably with an 80k seat stadium, with MSU as an afterthought. That's where you'd be. It's one thing when you have coaches LEAVING like we lost Hud and Diaz. It's something else ENTIRELY when you are pushing them out and upgrading the position. You project the former as good and the latter as bad. I see it as quite the opposite.

Hope they can immediately establish relationships w/ local programs because that often takes time.
David Turner has 10+ years of experience in MS. With the coaching turnover, we actually got arguably MORE experienced in the MS highschool system. Ever heard of Hughes? Knox? Koenning? All lights out MS recruiters. And all been here a long time. Who do you think plays better with MS recruits these days? Melvin Smith or Deshea Townsend?

How about the flipside with the number of doors that Brewster has opened for us nationally...which even you can't deny at this point. Do you REALLY not think many of the same doors are about open for us in Florida with the hiring of Gonzo? We've just hired a guy that is legendary in Texas recruiting -- and one that lit up Florida and national recruiting for a decade. Do I need to paste the list of Gonzo's signees again? Brewster was on the job for 5 months -- and the amount of targets that he put us in the game with was pretty crazy. Signed Ross out of Texas -- may end up getting Toby Johnson out of Ks/Ga.

Seems a little desperate to me. In year five, i would hope for more stability.
Yet, as I've CLEARLY shown, "stability" is what has held your program back multiple times in the last decade. When you hire the best and brightest, THEY MOVE ON. You'll see this first hand starting next year, I'd presume -- unless you underperform as a team.

Its nice to have Texas steal your dc, but having to terminate coach after coach, or having them leave pissed off is very different.
Link me to a single coach that has been "terminated" at MSU under Dan Mullen. Please. I'll be waiting. Leaving pissed off? Lol.

You said this 3 times in your post, Yancy, and it hasn't made a bit of sense yet.

The way I see it, Mullen just got BACK a guy that he grew tremendous chemistry with for almost a decade -- and that he wanted to bring along as his co-OC/WR coach originally(Yes, Byrne had hired Hudspeth prior to Mullen). That should IMPROVE staff chemistry -- not go the other way.

Has nothing to do with comparing our program to theirs. I was simply pointing out a part of their play book that they utilize often, most recently when freeze was hired. They create a narrative about a coach being a great recruiter and then use that narrative as cover when they sign the number one OT in the country out of the blue. The narrative with treadwell was that they had his former teammate and that was the connection to him. Nevermind that he was flashing hundreds of dollars on twitter.

That is the one thing above all that continually amazes me. The OM supporters pick on it and get a huge laugh out of it. I actually never hear or see them doing that with respect to State. It's almost like an inferiority complex.
