I remember Jimmy Johns saying the Alabama fans did that to him at the b-ball game he went to, and that locked it up for him.

Chanting a 17 year old recruit's name at a college basketball game is just stupid.

It is also kinda sad.

The Alabama example doesn't surprise me, because they are psycho.</p>

it should say "PAT PATTERSON", then in smaller print "with a poster, even I can affect the decisions of a 17 year-old."

may feel like a complete idiot doing it but if it impresses the recruit so be it. I know I felt like a complete idiot in my own home watching the La Tech game. Last weekend about 15,000 fans at LSU chanted "RU....BEN....RAN....DLE" clap...clap...clap clap clap when he entered the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for the LSU Xavier game. I don't know what makes us better than that.

Whether it helps or not, I agree that it's sad to heroize 17 year olds like that. Obviously, it's the new thing though, as I'm pretty sure Arkansas fans were bragging about having posters at the game with names of recruits on them.

But apparently it works for some kids.... Thames quoted on his weekend Visit per old BDJ article "We walked in and the crowd went wild; it was really exciting," Thames said. "People were holding up signs with our names on it and stuff. I was already feeling MSU, but that just made it happen for me."
