I think if it's not K then who is it? Got to be Wooden then with 10 titles.

We all say titles mean the most at UK but when discussing greatest coach they suddenly don't lol.

It's either K , Wooden, or Rupp. There's arguments for all 3. But it's those 3 n just those 3. But to say it's silly to call K the goat is just bias ignorance.

If Rivk wins a title this year then he's either in that group or right even with Knight right on bubble

I'll pulling for St. John's if UK gets bounced.

Pitino taking a fourth program to the Final Four is something that would never be replicated. Three titles at three schools would be even more impressive.
Yes, I believe Pitino is the only coach in history to take 3 different schools to the Final Four. Cal would have done too except for the vacated seasons at UMass and Memphis. Just getting St. Johns to a FF this year would be something no other coach has done.

Would you be happy, disappointed or could care less?
Obviously I want us healthy and to go as far as we can but if/when we are eliminated I will be rooting for them. They aren’t a historical threat and haven’t had success in a long time and it would be a great story. As long as our rivals don’t win it I’m good.

I SMDH when people don't acknowledge the title Rick Pitino won at Louisville. If you really wanna split hairs, he won it, and it was later vacated. But make no mistake, Rick Pitino won an NCAA title at Louisville.
By cheating his *** off. I know Murica loves it's cheaters and integrity doesn't mean jack diddly now, but screw that. Imagine if Cal won a second one here, but it was determined we did what UofL did. We'd be as ridiculed and mocked for saying "We WoN tHaT" as UofSmell is for claiming it.

Stop acknowledging ill gotten gains. I'm glad Rick has seemingly come to his senses, and I like he's supporting Pope. But the man cheated. There's nothing to celebrate there.

Fairly happy, but would be nice if Pitino were helping us get the likes of Smith and Richmond rather than getting them and turning them into a top 10 team. Kind of an odd dynamic where the goodwill is real on both sides but we’re still (of necessity) in competition in some ways.

Goodwill? I love Pitino (his coaching "personality" and ability to make the most of nothing. But I feel he is backdooring UK.

Isn't STJ one of the 10 most winningest programs in NCAA men's basketball history. One of the things keeping them out of most all-time best discussions is their lack of tournament history so it would be pretty cool, imo, if they won one. If UK cant win it why not have it be a team that hasnt won it all.
Yes they are. Also on that list is WKU, who is just outside the T15.

By wins, WKU is even big brother to UofL. lol

I don’t hate Pitino so I wouldn’t mind .

It’s tough for most people to answer this question because it would also depend on the opponent. If they had to face Duke in the title game I can’t imagine anyone on this board hoping that Duke won .
It's hard for me to ever see when I'd want to pUKe to win.

They cheated to get at least one player (Harrell) who was important to their run. If they don't have him they probably don't beat Wichita St or Michigan. One of those 2 should have been champ so no, I don't acknowledge that title.

Vacating titles and final fours after the fact just confuses me lol.

It's like yeah, maybe they cheated, maybe it was undeserved. But as a fan you were still cheering your a** off when it happened lol.

They can take away the title but they get go back and retroactively take away the joy it caused you lol.

I dunno

If that piece of crap, Pitino is coaching a team, I'm rooting for them to lose. (unless they're playing Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, etc.), but even then, it would be tough to decide.

I have always like RP as a on court XO, and player development coach.
I just hate all the scandals and crap he has chosen to surround himself in.

They are well coached and could go far but I don't think st johns can hang with a team that has elite players like auburn or Duke. They could beat houston I believe.

It would be kind of cool.

St. John’s is one of the best (if not the best) programs in NCAA history that hasn’t won a title, so it would be fun to see them finally get one.

I don’t want to see Duke, KU, UCLA, UConn, UNC, UofL, or IU win it all. I never want to see any of those seven ever win another title.

Nobody is "celebrating" the cheating. Louisville got caught cheating in an era rampant with cheating. But, the games happened, and we all saw Louisville win a title. It was recruiting crap. It wasn't like the players were juicing or Rick was bribing officials. I don't totally disagree with your point, but let's not make it bigger than what it actually was.

I am not a Pitino fan. I have seen his team play 3 games this year, 2 against UConn. I am very impressed with his team. This may be his best coaching job. I can see why he stated that he will not recruit another high school kid. He is absolutely great at evaluating players that go to the transfer portal. He started with nothing this year and now has one of the best teams in the nation. Congrats to him.
Pitino’s strength was always player evaluation and one on one development.

If you played for Pitino you were a better player when you left. The longer you played for him the better you got.

Then he was a master motivator for players to use that talent and also demanded they be in condition to play how he wanted.

As for X & O’s and situational coaching he was awful when he was here.

He is far better now at that.

If UK doesn't win it, then StJ would be my second choice.
As a 65-year old, I can still remember like yesterday how much Pitino did for UK when he arrived in the late 80's. I'd be very happy for him.
It doesn't mean that he didn't do a lot of things to aggravate the heck out of me after he left UK - but I can forgive those and focus on all the good he did while he was here.
And I still think there is a spot for him somewhere in the UK sports system here. Maybe winning a title this year would be the perfect time for him to retire from StJ and come back to LEX next year.

I could NOT care less.
If I "could care less" that would mean I do care some.
But actually, I guess I would be relieved that it didn't go to Duke, or KU or UConn or UT or UNC.

Pitino gave me/us some of the best times UK basketball has ever seen. I cherish that time he was here. Despised him at UL. As soon as he left, I was back on the RP train. I hope he wins every game unless they are playing UK. Honestly, wish he'd never left UK.

I'm 46, and that was hands down my favorite time to be a UK fan. Talk about flat out fun! Not sure we'll ever find an era like that again.

They are good.

They can't shoot the ball but they do everything else pretty well lol
Yeah, I looked at their offensive numbers in Kenpom and their offense is ranked worse than our defense....that's can't be good. They have the lowest ranked offense (75th) in the top 35 teams on Kenpom. I've always been a Pitino fan (secret...I didn't even dislike him that much when he was at UL) because he got to UK when I was in 7th grade....prime fandom as a kid.

Only reason I'd be happy is that someone like Kansas, Duke, UNC or another blueblood didn't win. Otherwise, I don't give a care what St. Johns or Pitino does.
