Will he still say no? Sure.

But you at least need to pretend you are conducting a true “national” search by making that **** get a 24 hour run on ESPN.

I’m 1000% sure he would be happy to say some nice things about WVU and that he was flattered to be considered, etc for nothing else than to honor Huggs.

There is never harm in a phone call, but there is no way WVU is poaching a coach from the Boston Celtics, especially when they’re primed for another championship run next year.

Mazzula has 3 years and 14 million left on his contract with I'm sure a sizable buyout. A call just for respect and a possible future opportunity makes sense, however he's not coaching here anytime soon.

Recruiting is one of the things NBA coaches don't have to worry about and it's a big pain in the a$$.

Mazulla has stated he doesn't want to coach college level. Wasted time talking is wasted time on a search for necessity. No time for respect in this situation.

The point I think is to flex WVU’s influence in the world of professional basketball. Not just on the court, but in the front office as well. Between Gansey, Mazz, Jerry West, and even Jonnie West, WVU can show they can offer some options at the next level.

Last AD never allowed NIL support from donors. That's part 2 of reason he got fired. The 1st reason was an extension to a 2nd year coach that was .500 at the time with a bowl win over Navy.

That guy left. If he had stayed Dana woul still be coach and WVU would be 7-5 instead of 5-7.

Would have had NIL movement a lot sooner and players would not have left.

EDIT: WVU would also be beating Texas Tech like they should every year.
