If Stoops goes 8-4 will he leave UK for greener pastures?

I don't think so either. The program has some things going for them. This could be built into something pretty damn good.

I don't think a program significantly better than UK would go after Stoops after just one 8-4 season. If he gets 2-3 then that's a different discussion.

8-4 = a significant raise for this whole staff. Starting with Stoops, Marrow, then Henshaw, so, you get that vibe don't you? Then start on the defensive side and an 8-4 season would make DJ Elliot look like a must have head coach candidate.

And guess what? These guys are the real deal with that success and the recruiting upgrade that would be prompted post 8-4.

Let's get us some of that and worry about keeping these guys later. That will be step 2 of the Stoops mission. Get there and keep it all together.

No....if Art Briles could do it with Baylor....(yes, I know what happened, with Briles) my point being, he turned a bottom dweller for YEARS!!!! Into a contender... It takes the right coach...(I don't want to hear, "well he Tx too recruit from...yes/no)

Next year's team should be better than this year, so I think he has motivation to stay, but it depends on who offered

JMOP, Stoops will not be going anywhere if we go 8 & 4. He is here for several years. he really wants to put UK on the big football map. Sure we will loose a few staff members along the way, but the important ones , will be here for at least 2 more years. If he were to fail this year & next, he is smart enough to see it might not be in the cards for UK to be a power player in the SEC. I see nothing but bright things for UK Football now and the future. Never will be a Bama Or Ohio St, or a few others, BUT we can become a top 25 team down the road. I have the faith in Stoops.

First of all who would hire him? If he goes 8-4 after going 2-10, 5-7, and 5-7, it would only be a mid-major offer in my opinion. Don't see any of the former big schools he coached at offering (FSU, Miami, Arizona). Second I would guess Mitch would fight to keep him. I'm thinking he may offer up to $ 1 million more to make him stay. That means whoever comes after him will be paying quite a bit of money not only to buy him out but also to top what UK would offer.

8-4 at UK would certainly get him some attention. The biggest of big boys probably wouldn't come calling (yet) but certainly he'd be attractive b/c of his name, his recruiting prowess, and his ability to build a program (2-10 to 8-4 in four seasons). I hate these kinds of posts (sorry OP) b/c I'm tired of talking about potential for success, we deserve some actual on-field results. I'll gladly deal with this "problem" if and when it happens.

We'll need the Dline to really exceed expectations but 8-4 is not out of the realm of possibility for this team. 7 more likely but if they could get 4 sec wins and finally not play to lose against UL that's 8 baby.

Unless a job in the big 10 opened up, and I don't mean a Purdue or Indiana, I would not expect Stoops to leave. Being from Ohio, and UK being the Northern most school in the SEC, a lot of recruits from the Northern part of the US, who want to play in the SEC, UK is the one that is closest to their home. That's important for family and friends, and it's important for a lot of recruits. I hope we face that problem this year.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

I think there is possibility of winning 6, maybe 7 games if everything falls into place. And I would consider that a very successful season. If Stoops wins 8, he should be SEC coach of the year.

Do not thank this team will go 8 and 4..
I seriously doubt this is anything more than a troll thread. You know the kind where they try to reverse logic another thread. Not sure what point they believe is being made by this.

It would be tough decision but if a major program offered he would be foolish not to jump ship. Kentucky is not the type state to maintain a consistent high level of football as opposed to Fla, Alabama, Ga, Ohio, etc. Too few quality high school programs or prospects on a yearly basis.

But first he must win 8-9 games consistently. Maybe 7-8 is more realistic.

If he goes 8-4, build him a damn statue. Hell, I'd take 8-4 any year. A national title contender program is realistically, 15 years and 3 great hires away. That's just college football. A lot of 8-4 seasons would help with that, and I wouldn't have to be depressed every saturday.

He's going to have to go 8-4 first, and then do it a couple more times...and sneak in a 9-3 or better...

if that did happen, it would then really depend on which pastures open up...

I would say if CMS wins at least 8 games the next 3 seasons and beats some big boys along the way then he will be on some short lists...

It's the nature of the beast in this modern era of sports for coaches to move around...the era of 20-30 year guys is over...and I think that is a good thing...

I mean Saban left MSU and LSU...Meyer left Florida...Chip Kelly left a gravy train at Oregon...so it's not outrageous to think Mark Stoops would leave Kentucky...

However, I don't think he is going to jump for just any program that could offer a little more prestige in money...

and right now I don't see a situation in which the programs he would leave for are open in the next 3-5...in college any way...

False...This is loser mentality that infects the UK program.

UK has everything needed to be consistent in football. It doesn't matter that Kentucky as a state doesn't produce tons of High School talent. There are only so many spots on a roster.

I sorta agree with what you're saying but then his brother has stayed at one place for a long time. Sure, it's Oklahoma and not Kentucky but if he starts making noise at UK he is still coaching on the biggest college stage which is the SEC so we do have that going for us. Along with the fantastic new practice facility and upswing in recruiting that it should supply I'm thinking M. Stoops may want to make a big name for himself at UK for years to come. Just my silly thoughts anyway.

If he goes 8-4 he should get a raise and an extension. If he can go 8-4 or better 3 years in a row, he should be the highest paid coach in college Football.

And will be known as Gov. Stoops.

If stoops, maintened a level of success over a number of years and has a assistant ready too take his place, sure, why not!?...then again, why leave?, if you possibly win a SEC championship or compete for a national title....that tells me, YOUR NFL bound!!! Lol...Idk...let's give stoops his time...I'll take anyday and everyday over.....wait for it....Bobby "p*rnhub, ooops, it showed up on Twitter" petrino.....(he still loves wife, he's a CHANGED MAN!!!....his account was hacked...d*mn hackers! No, but if he did, this job is a lot more attractive now than when he came! So id say we'd have a pretty good chance at nabbing a good coach, i.e. Facility upgrades, roster etc...but no, he won't leave this year

I agree bluejohnson....I'm like you and the rest of us, UK can win in football...it's so frustrating....I always go back too 2007, that team, top 10....should have been at least 10-2....
