There are going to be so many P4 jobs opened, it will be a bad year to be looking for a coach. LSU, Kentucky and Florida could all be looking for a coach after this season. Petrino might back end his way into the Arkansas job full time.

What we've got with Lebby right now is working, we can't throw that away on the off chance that Mullen would be as good as he once was
I'm good with rolling with Lebby for now.

I was more hinting at Mullen will make it back to his Penn State days.

the money to fire James Franklin are true.....

It was Dan that brought Adidas to Starkville right?

The stars are aligning.

Edit to Add. For the people not connecting the dots.....

I'm saying Mullen to Penn State.
They’re not. I mean-it’s just completely false. Adidas can’t and won’t start paying buy outs for coaches.

What makes you think a first time head coach would ever be responsible for a school’s athletic apparel contract?

Seriously?

Penn St, Florida, Arkansas and don't forget Auburn as they are looking long and hard at Freeze. That's four schools with big bank accounts already.

Penn St is still wearing Nike gear and will until July 1, 2026. Would Adidas give a sh-it 9 months before they are providing their logo to unis, especially by putting up almost $50 million?

My post was merrily a jest.

I guess if we aren't arguing about left vs right then no one can use their heads?

Penn State might be using money they'll be obtaining from their Adidas deal to buyout Franklin, but there is NO way that Adidas is giving them additional funds solely for the purpose of buying out a coach.

I have a hard time believing these AD's are giving out these massive contracts with outrageous buyouts without assurances from the network of extremely wealthy boosters each school has that they will cover most of the cost of a buyout. Can't understand why AD's would put themselves in a position of wanting to screw themselves over and risk their careers over buyout costs especially this day in age.

That Adidas stuff is fake news but Dan will 100% talk to them. He may not get it but they'll talk to his agent.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one that isn’t crazy in this thread. Why in the actual 17 would Adidas payout $50 million to buy out a highly successful and recognizable coach of a program they already represent?

If Auburn is really looking “long and hard” at Freeze, for his own sake I hope he keeps a low profile and doesn’t walk into Cohen’s office wearing a Grateful Dead t-shirt.

On the Buy-Out note, it's written in the buy-out clause of Franklin's contract that he has to "pursue another job" to receive the money. If he gets another job, Penn State will only owe him the difference between what his new salary is and what is salary would've been if he wasn't fired.

He will be getting paid 70-100% of the buyout….depending on his current coaching desires.

“Pursuing another job” by no means forces him to accept a job at a certain salary level. He’ll be able to do whatever he wants, and get paid a **** ton for it, no matter what it is.

Mullen needs to stay put. He has a low tolerance for drama. UNLV is perfect for him.
UNLV only had enough to pay him for 2 season and it was assumed he would move on. I know for a fact his people reached out to one SEC school with a current vacancy.

There is a reason they are athletic administrators and not real business people.

It got their last coach the Purdue job, so I wouldn't say that
That's cause Odom lost his OC to be HC at Sacramento State and knew to take a job now - his OC made that team GoGo. What other P2 job was open last year? None. He literally got the best available job last year.

You could make an argument for UNC as better - but that's it. So Odom got his pick - just the pickings were slim when he timed.

Dan can afford to time it to his desire and he may just get a top flight job this go around.
