Yes, It will be a major challenge for whoever we hire, but PSU will come though this better than most are anticipating. It helps we are in the age of NIL.

I think judging the decision before it is known comes off as lynch mob’ish. I will gladly join in if they hire someone like Al Golden, but I’m still awaiting the outcome.
Not sure I agree that this applies to Smith as he is a thru-&-thru Penn Stater. Smith gets the benefit of the doubt imho.

There's no denying the initial coach search did not pan out in the way the Athletic Department planned. I'm fine with joining in the rest of the internet and pointing out Kraft had a 50+ day run-up to get this right and failed in a way that is comically bad for a team that made the playoffs last year . . . no matter who the coach ends up being, it's not the guy that Kraft sold to the administration (Kalani) as who they should pull the trigger on for his vision.
Now, Kraft could also trip and stumble into an NFL coach that becomes available, or it's possible a coach no one is aware is unhappy at their current job is sending signals through back channels - it'd be great if PSU hired a candidate with a proven record of success, it'd also be great if Heather Graham came roller skating into my living room right now in a re-enactment of Boogie Nights, right now there is nothing that gives me the hope for either future but on the off chance a miracle happens you won't hear me complain about the end result.

One thing I have really thought hard about throughout all of this is that the vast majority of football people are dumb. Not all of them, but the vast majority are. That goes for the media, coaches, fans, and certainly players. There is a reason most schools have a lower admission standard for football players and they get all the academic help needed.

The only issue I might have is that people need to differentiate between things they understand and things they know nothing about. That’s an important life skill.

No melt down here. As unless they signed Urban or Saban any coach was going to be a roll of the dice. Success at 1 program does not guarantee future success at another program. I would rather PK take his time and get who he thinks is right and not hire someone out of sheer panic of getting someone signed. So they will sign someone and I will support them 100%, knowing that it was a gamble they would have success at PSU.

Well if any other coach is a roll of the dice then there’s no excuse for Kraft not hiring one before letter of intent day after he fired Franklin on October 12th and had a jump start on all of the schools who fired coaches and hired replacements already with the exception of UCLA. I attended my first Penn State game when Rip Engle was the coach; had season tickets from 1978 until my wife started having serious health issues a few years ago; lived through the 2004-2005 down era (because Joe should have retired 10-15 years before he was fired in 2011); and the sanctions years. Maybe Kraft will prove me wrong and make a great hire (in which case I will gladly come on this post and officially apologize and eat crow), but I think he has done severe harm to the program which will take years to recover from.
I am not laying this all at PK's feet. We all have no idea how much if at all the meddling PSU BOT has been involved. We don't know how things played out behind the scenes either and who if anyone else was involved and rejected candidates or demands by candidates. For me its not worth getting all worked up about. I gave up tickets several years ago and frankly PSU football has taken less of a role in my life. I will support whoever the next coach is, but I am not going to run around acting as if my hair is on fire screaming about why PSU doesn't have a coach. Until then I will wait to see who it is and welcome him aboard when he signs on with PSU.
