Where does Ben Roethlisberger stand among the all time great QB's? He may have more titles than anyone by the time its all over with

but I still don't think Ben is a top5 QB in the NFL right now. He has been a big beneficiary of great defense and great O-Lines.

His current stat line at half-time reads 7-14 for 96 yards, 0 TDs and 1 int. 3 rushes for 13 yards and TD. Not that impressive. He should thank Dick LeBeau.

It puts him right up there with the best IMO. He will have won 3 superbowls before 30 (he won't even be 29 until March). Having big numbers are great, but ask Dan Marino if having all those big numbers= championships. I bet he would trade all his records for 1 Lombardi trophy.

He's a good QB, but Pittsburgh asks him to go out, get at least 17 points, and not turn the ball over. Let the defense do the rest.

He has been on a team that always plays hard nose defense and run it down your throat football. He is a good physical QB that fits that team perfectly. I don't know if I would put him up there with the greats just yet.

His numbersaren'tastronomical, but they are hardly average. Also, I dont buy the whole argument that he is just a game manager. No way Mark Sanchez has 2 (possibly 3) super bowl appearances if he was drafted by the steelers when Ben was. That throw to Holmes in the Super Bowl 2 years ago is as clutch as they come.

Ben R. is better than Sanchez and I'm not even considering thinking any other way...

I would take Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, and Rivers over Ben R. without hesitation. I would then consider taking Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub over him as well.

Here's the question you have to ask yourself. If you put Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers and Rivers on the Steelers, would their seasonal outcomes be different? I, personally, don't think so. He could win the Super Bowl this year and it wouldn't change my mind either.

that Ben R. has, Marino would've won those Super Bowls too. If Ben R. played on those Dolphins teams instead of Marino, he wouldn't have won any either.

And Roethlisberger (sp?) wouldn't have been to a SB.

Best way to explain the argument I've seen so far.

First of all, there is no way I would take Rivers or Rodgers over him. The other 3 are question marks in my mind. Could Marino have won multiple titles with the 49ers in the 80's? I dont really know the answer to that question because hedidn'tdo it. There is no doubt that Marino was more talented than Montana going by the numbers, but the greatest QB's of all time are judged by Super Bowls and being big time gamers.

I know that there's no comparison between Dilfer and Roethlisberger... but I think they're both beneficiaries of great, great defenses.

But there is a big difference in the QBing the Ravens when the D scores 2 TD's in a blowout and leading a game winning drive when you are down in the last 2 minutes of the super bowl.

Speaking of defenses that scored TDs, if you took away Jerome Harrison's 100 yard TD return in that game, does Kurt Warner get his second Super Bowl ring?

There's no arguement that Ben didn't have a huge moment in that 2 minute drill... but when you're discussing "all-time greats" you've gotta look at a little more than a few clutch moments. It's the body of work.

And since you bring up defensive TDs... what would be the score if you take 7 off the board for the TD the Steelers D had?

He's a game manager and his stat lines prove it. He's a pefect fit to the team that has a hard-nosed defense and an in-your-face running game.

But he's not the reason they're winning. Their defense and running game are more the reason that they're winning.

PeytonManning is the reason Indy wins. Tom Brady (and Belichek) is the reason New England wins. Drew Brees is the reason New Orleans wins. Ben Roethlisberger is not the reason Pittsburgh wins.

they won the first Super Bowl pretty much in spite of Ben's horrific play in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Depends on how he plays in 2 weeks, although I don't anticipate them beating Green Bay. At full strength (and with a newly found running game), the Packers have the best team in the league.
