If the worst happens and State is not in the SEC any longer...

I don’t foresee that but I would imagine that Big12 or what’s left of ACC would pick us up. Hard for people In our Fanbase to understand but we do have funds and marketability.

Would you give same financial support? I would still watch/attend the games but knowing we aren't competing against the best would be tough to take.

Uninspired is the word that comes to mind...I look at USM as the closest most relatable example, but honestly they have it better than we would in this scenario as a school/conference, since they were never in the SEC to begin with. If the SEC rug was pulled out from under us, it would be depressing to say the least.

This is also based on the opinion that this happening would mean that we suck so bad that we dont get picked up by a decent conference. If we could get into a decent conference it would make it tolerable, but still a very hard pill to swallow.

Let us all hope and pray that this scenario plays out.

We have funds because we’re in the SEC. Any marketability we have is as a legacy member of the SEC. We’re located in one of the poorest and least populated states in the country and neither of those look to change any time soon. We have one of the smallest and least wealthy donor bases in the Power 4. We’re more likely headed for the Sun Belt or the American than the Big 12 or ACC.

So, now, it's okay to ponder on the possibility that State gets left out of the big boy club? We were told repeatedly that this notion is ridiculously stupid and will "never happen."
Who told you that? I've thought it since the conference realignments started to happen. But I'm more pessimistic.

We may we suck in football but in baseball and in basketball we would add value.

What are the odds of this happening? The odds of us making the CFP in the next 10 years is greater than the odds of us being booted from the conference in the next 10 years.

Still be a fan but it would go down the list of things I pay attention to.

ETA:

But let’s be honest here, what is the likeliness in this current model that State is competitive in football? Baseball and basketball are a little different.

If it happens, it will only be in football.
This. Lots of unkowns. Right now, everything is locked in until at least the early 2030s. As 615 said, I think there is a notion that if a "super league" does form, it will be just football. How many and who? TBD. How will football splitting off affect the other sports at those schools where it is separated? Good question. What will it look for those schools where football does not separate? Will they be members of the "SEC" in all sports and have a "Championship" (using English soccer anolgy) for football, and then compete against everyone in the others?

The first big shoe to drop will be the NFL opting out of their media rights in 2030. They are going to reset the pay bar, but also leave some behind. Most think CBS and FOX are going to struggle to ante up. So the question is how much will ESPN, Comcast, the streamers (Amazon, Netflix, Google) go all in on NFL, and will they want to pay the money to create super league. Or will CBS and FOX contribute to do so.

Any team, anywhere, at anytime, is only one loss away from apostasy in their respective conference these a days…..

I'll put it this way, if we could drop Tn, Tx, UGA and replace them with OkSt, TCU, Colorado, or GaTech, UNC, UVA.... I would still attend the games. And I'd be much more optimistic about our chances.

This will be a question to ask after this season. If we finish the season 1 win in our last 24 sec games, more people may be ready to consider this.

Obviously, I don't. But if you offered me an even-money two-way bet:
  1. State is booted from the SEC in the next 10 years.
  2. State makes the CFP in the next 10 years.
I would personally take the latter. Perhaps neither would happen, but I still think the latter is more likely than the former.

Would it cause State to be one of those one-loss teams that just barely missed the playoffs?

The biggest supporters of State staying in the SEC are all the SEC teams we regularly play. And the SEC front office. We have nothing to worry about.

I agree. I think the real end game of college football is a lot different than a lot of people think. It's gonna look a lot like it looks right now. A few ACC schools will be split between the SEC and Big 10 and that will be it. 2 major conferences with 18-22 teams each. Two 2nd tier conferences with about the same. Then everyone else.

This wouldn't bother me because if you can't compete with the best then what's the point of trying and continuing to go through the agony over and over and over again?

I'd probably be more excited about Miss State athletics, but that's only because my fandom is running on fumes at this point. I dont get a lot of joy out of our current participation in the SEC in the big 3 sports.

It costs more and more and I get less and less from it.
