Koenning was gone the second that Martin hit "send" on his social media account. It was the wrong way to do it and it was wrong that it was done but it is done and Koenning was "sent" packing. The lifeblood of any program is the players. Coaches come and go for various reasons. Some are fired, some resign, some retire, and some just move on. But, what makes the program is the players. They are what draws the crowds and they are what brings in the money. That is what all this is about - the ability to bring in the players and thus bring in the money. Koenning had to go because of that - his presence could potentially hurt the bottom line. It can be claimed that this gives the players too much power and maybe that's true. A player's "word" can destroy a coach's job or career. We see it happen not just here but everywhere now. It's not fair, but it's just the way it is now. We've allowed emotions to rule the day. To make our decisions for us. Reason and logic have gone out the door. We see a microcosm of it right here on these forums as people rant emotionally from both sides. It's just a reflection of what's happening all across our country. Let us not forget it was the emotional response of Pat White after the Fiesta Bowl that caused a drunken 2:00 A.M. mob to give us Bill Stewart so it works in the opposite also. WVU will move on from Vic Koenning - a good man and a great coach. WVU will also move on from Kerry Martin. But, there will be a lot more Kerry Martins to come who will have to be treated with kid gloves. Money supercedes loyalty in this business and more and more Vic Koennings will be the result.
