and Don Mullins has a very good year..............................Will UF come-a-calling? Greater than 19.83% chance?

If so, will MSU make a move to bump up Corch Mullins' salary or just let him go 'cause outbidding UF is fool's folly?

Highly doubt they would offer Mullins in the first place. If they did, shirley we'd at least counter offer.

UF will return to the spread. Muschchamp's ball control scheme depleted the offensive talent @ UF and put FSU back in the game.

Unfortunately the ship has sailed (or burnt down in the case of "Cortez" Gonzalez) on the Urban Myer coaching tree. Plus, Mullen hasn't shown that he can do more than rebuild, including beat a better opponent.

So, to answer the question, no. I do expect a raise for Mullen but any UF talk would be from the Mullen camp. However, I would let Mullen walk if he tries to run up the bill because Collins has proven to be a better coordinator and recruiter than Mullen.

Muschamp is fighting for his career. I suspect this year will look a lot like Ogeron's last year.
We want a coach that gets other offers yearly. I see him being considered but not offered by Flirida.

I know you are so clever, but can you muster up a little big of class and spell his name correctly?

Dan Mullen wasn't necessarily a popular figure in Gainesville. I remember after that botched up-the-middle 4th down attempt to seal an Ole Miss victory a significant amount of their fan base wanted him fired.

But if their AD doesn't at least call Dan's agent to gauge interest, he isn't doing his job. He'll for sure get a phone call. 20 other guys will too.

That's if Muschamp is fired. I don't think he will be. I still think he can right the ship. You have to remember, the program was in REALLY bad shape when he got there. What elite talent he had either had a bad attitude or had no viable backup. Or both. They were 2 different teams the first 6 games vs the last 6 games. They were visibly gassed halfway through each one. And your offense is only as good as your QB... And they have zero.

Yes, assuming "very good year" means at least 9 wins.

The knock on Mullen is not be able to beat quality teams and "very good year" would mean that he beat several w/ inferior talent. Its one of the best jobs in the country though, and I doubt he is a finalist for the job.

While the class comment is a bit much, I agree. Seeing Mullins and Strickland just makes me think you're an idiot.

I would say UF should be looking at nothing but the two or three hottest head coaches that are not at destination jobs, but Muschamp should have never been considered the first go around, so maybe Mullen will be on the short list this time. The argument for Mullen is that he has proven he can be a head coach in the SEC and that he is extremely good at avoiding losses to infrerior teams. He can also identify talent. His one knock, that he can't pull the upset, will be negated in part by the fact that at UF he can have equal talent to anybody else. He will also have the budget to keep good DC's, only losing them to head coaching jobs. The biggest downside is that Mullen is already a top 25 paid coach, so Foley will have to pay him big time to get him to jump to a situation with worst personnel (weird that you can say that, but the qb hole is glaring at UF versus being stocked at MSU) and less patient fans.

Now that I think about it, I would definitely have Mullen on the short list if I were Foley. I'd want to hire the hottest name to calm the fans, but if I couldn't make that happen, I'd feel fairly confident that if I could get through one tough transition season, that Mullen would be on a path to make both our jobs secure.

It'd be interesting. I think a college like UF would go for the hottest coaches that have a good track record. From a non-biased point of view, Mullen has an average track record as head coach. Excellent one as an assistant. I'd be a little surprised if they ended up offering Mullen but a lot of variables would come into play. He'd have to get us 10+ wins this season to be considered seriously IMO.

I don't know. I'm trying to come up with another coach that rebuilt at a have-not in the SEC that can be compared to Mullen. Franklin is probably the most impressive recent example. Spurrier is probably second if you consider USC a have-not. Petrino is probably third if you consider Arkansas a have-not. Bucky is off to a good start. Arguably better out of the gate than Mullen but also showing more cracks in the program. Nutt looked good but inherited a crap ton of talent. Not sure you can count him. I know Tuberville did well enough at UM to get an Auburn offer, but can't remember how good they were before and during his term.

Mullen has been slow and steady. If he pulls in 10 regular season wins this year, he probably does become the hottest name of coaches not at destination schools, but even at 9 wins, that's a pretty damn solid resume for your first head coaching job. If I remember correctly, that's as good as Les Miles put together at Ok St. If he wins 8, then he probably would not and should not be on their radar. But at 9, I would expect Mullen to have at worst a mark richt type career at a school with resources like FLorida.

Very true. Another thing that would be interesting to see is if UF would go with another assistant to HC hire or hire someone that is already a proven HC. They did that when they brought in Urban. So many variables play into hiring. Sheesh.
