If UK had played like this against us...

I really think that Pearl is my least favorite coach in all sports and for some reason (even though I have always been a closet UK fan) I have pulled against UK harder than I have ever pulled for MSU during this NCAAT. I just can't stand the fact they got their cheating *** players in school and we couldn't.

I want UK to win it all, because it'll tick so many people off.

Also, Pearl is awesome. I'll never understand why so many people hate him. He's a good coach, and he lives the life. I also love the suspenders and orange blazer. I don't like UT obviously, but I like the way Pearl goes about his business.

He was watching bball highlights and talking to anyone who walked by. That was the morning of their UK game. Great guy

He's the Charles Rhodes of coaches.

And to continue that thought, I think Demarcus Cousins could be considered a Rhodes type player.

I can't think of any reason I should ever pull for another SEC team. And besides that, we historically do our best (see late 90's in football) when the SEC powers, at least in the West, are down.

except he actually wins games of course

Anybody want to take a shot at what a Bruce Pearl vs Ed Orgeron drinking contest would look like?

How can you not pull for the SEC? In the end it helps MSU for the SEC to be back on top in basketball. If our coach could just learn how to implement an offense besides the stand and shoot...

He is a good coach and recruiter, but he is scum just like Calipari. They both are these great fun guys on tv, but they are as dirty as they come. Not too mention that Pearl black balled himself from college basketball for a while because he told on Illinois by recording a conversation he had with a recruit. This is the same guy that pulled Hopson away from us and we all know dirty stuff went on there. I'm not acting like Stansbury isn't dirty or that Pearl and Cal or the only two, but they are the only smug sons of bitches that walk and talk like they are god's gift to basketball. They have the media eating out of their hands which is good on their part, but it makes me sick listening to the media talk about how great both of those coaches are.

The misery of other sports fans is part of the reason why sports is so enjoyable. Winning isn't that fun without losers there to feel the pain of the loss.

I live in Memphis. There will be a lot of pain in this city if John Calipari wins a title this year. It will be highly enjoyable for me.

And I do love me some Bruce Pearl. He's a man's man, and I'd love to have him as my coach. The comparisons to Orgeron are way off for a couple reasons though. Obviously he wins, he's sane, he openly runs his mouth in public about his opponents, and he spends a good bit of time on his social life. About the only thing they have in common is a reputation for being loud and disliked.

To prove I'm not just being a jerk, think of it this way. Have you ever been to an All-Star game or an exhibition where the teams are just going through the motions? It's not nearly as fun to watch because the teams don't really care if they win or lose. You have to have the other team care and be angry when they lose for sports to be enjoyable. It's the yin to the yang of enjoying victory. Why do you hate your rival team so much? It's because you deal with them on a daily basis, and you would rather see them unhappy. What fun is it going to work on the Monday following an Egg Bowl win or any win for that matter if you can't enjoy the misery of your co-workers?

The funny thing is Hopson would be a reserve on your team. That guy is not very good and was way overrated coming out of high school.

I would love for him to be our coach. I'm pulling for Tenn and Kentucky b/c I think it will help us for the future if the SEC does well in the tournament. However, I can see that going either way.

I guess because I'm not a ********** who enjoys injuries n ****? And seriously, they say it's MSU fans that care more about an Ole Miss loss than an MSU win? Archive it.

then you certainly want Kentucky to lose, not win. Sure, it will suck for a lot of people if UK wins a NC but most just won't care...

...but if they don't win, the meltdown from the big boo nation is much, much better.

Rooting for UK in basketball is like wanting Bama to win more football national championships.

I don't deal with UK fans. I rarely even meet any of them, and when I do I really don't care that much about their gloating, if they do gloat. The reason why it doesn't bother me is because their a basketball school in the SEC. They're supposed to win in the SEC because no one else in the league cares as much as they do, but they take their lumps in football every year because of it. Having to pull for a basketball team as your big season of the year makes you a lower breed of fan to me anyway, so I don't really get that bothered by their success at that sport. If they started winning at football while caring more about basketball than football, then I'd start hating them more.

So for me it's more about the misery of those around me. I can't enjoy UK's misery.

And call me what you want, but I'm not going to pretend to be a pollyanna that wants everyone to have fun and have a chance to win. I enjoy seeing people lose sometimes, and I enjoy watching people be miserable over watching a rival win almost as much. I pull against Vandy in football because I don't think their fans and their lack of commitment to football deserve to be rewarded with anything other than 2-10 misery. That's part of sports. Not only do you pay to see your team win, but you enjoy seeing the other team lose. That's why being at a road game when your team wins can be so much fun. You get to enjoy seeing the pain your team just caused.

And Goat, don't act like you're above that crap. A couple years ago, you showed up on Nafoom after we finally lost our first basketball game so you could gloat. That's exactly what you were doing, trying to get enjoyment out of our misery. You want to see the fans you hate suffer. I hate Memphis fans and live around a bunch of them. Therefore, Calipari winning a national title at UK would be great to me.
