If we are going assistants, I want Kirby...nm

plus the offense some are referring to here. Either he or Payne I think is the right hire. Stricklin makes that choice. Kirby would probably land Pollard too, and he'd keep Cunningham and Grant on staff.

Not sure that would be a plus....we really need some new blood here. Kirby if fine with me but he needs better assistants. Sorry for Grant and Cunningham....that's the nature of the profession they chose.

Templeton was notorious for it and the last time we had any new blood in our basketball program was when we hired Stan Jones for a 1-year gig. Keeping everything in the family leads to complacency and that really hurt Stans in the last few years of his career.

what hurt Stans was recruiting and trying to coach problem players that he could not handle. He wasn't complacent. If anything he was rolling the dice and taking risks he normally wasn't because he wanted to go that extra mile and accomplish a little more.<div>
</div><div>It's not like the basketball program is not successful or anything. We brought in new blood with Croom too. POLK was complacent, and he still won a little while he was here. We all know that was a terrible hire from day 1, not because he was an MSU guy, but because he was old and didn't want to coach anymore, but LT talked him into it. We kept it in the family with Cohen and that has been a GREAT hire. You may not agree with everything he's done but you can't deny his effort. Mullen is new blood, sure, but so what? He also kept Melvin around. Look at my examples above. Kept it in the family after Williams with Stans and that was a good move too.</div><div>
</div><div>It's about getting the hire right, not keeping it in the family, as I just proved. You can't win this one.</div>

It's not like we would be hiring Kirby right off Stans bench either. No, he didn't leave for head coaching experience, but I'm sure he's learned some things while at Georgetown. I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping it in the family like you're saying Goat, as long as it's the right hire. We all know Raffo would have been a disaster, and I still think Cohen is doing a good job. No situation is exactly the same, so saying keeping it in the family would not be good just isn't true.

Nobody on this board including you have a clue if Payne is worth anything at running a program or can actually coach. All I ever hear about Payne is relative to recruiting but we already know Kirby can do that as well. Kirby has had much more overall responsibility under Stans and Thompson than Payne has ever had anywhere as far as I can tell.

apparently, his worth is extremely valued. Nobody knows what hell Kirby can do either, and dont act like you do.

He's not getting the job

if he was even close to the top of the list, this coaching search would be over by now. I would support the hire of Kirby though.
