If we do beat Texas it will be because……

My fear is they, like most teams we will play, are just better on both lines. But if we do win I think it will be because we match their physicality up front. We may not have the hogs, but maybe our piglets play above their heads.

I don’t like our OL vs their DL. At all. That could be ugly. Their OL vs our DL is a much better matchup for us. If we win, it will be a low scoring game where we shut their offense down like Kentucky did & get a big play or 2 from our receivers. Would be a big plus to get a healthy Bothwell back, but not sure that gonna happen.

If we do win it will be because we don't give the ball up, finally hit open receivers and finally put 4Q's together instead of 1 or 2Q's

Two things we must do, keep Manning in the pocket under pressure, get turnovers.

This one has me recalling that great crxxmfest versus pine box. Offensive incompetence writ large.

Whatever UK did to keep a lid on their offensive is clearly what we should do. I hope we have been studying that film a lot.

Their offense has been brutally bad and we are playing at home. Those two things should give us at least a chance.

.....I would add, to beat them, we will need to terrorize their defense with a brutally punishing ground attack

I haven’t given up hope, but there are just too many damn IFs with this team.

IF we can stop committing stupid penalties
IF we can find a way to pass block
IF we can run the ball well
IF we can limit turnovers
IF Shapen can hit the deep routes
IF our coach can figure out what to do with KT

Out of all the above things, the only one that I can say that we at least do somewhat consistently well is running the ball, but our playcalling also repeatedly goes away from it.

To win in this league, you have to be able to hang your hat on something, and I have no idea what that would be for this team

IDK, don’t put a RB in that fumbles one of his six 17ing carries at the opponents 15?

the meh letdown game for Texas was last weekend, that followed the hyped up Red River win against the Sooners

This weekend I think we get their average effort which will probably be enough to win, as mentioned, because of the difference in line play

Texas will play conservative on offense and let their D win the game for them, and our mistakes on offense

Going off the script from when they played Florida, they were able to build a good lead from possessing the ball for very long periods of time and really working the short to intermediate passing game.

Their three first half scoring drives were as follows:

TD - 13 plays / 84 yards / 6:52
FG - 10 plays / 64 yards / 4:12
TD - 10 plays / 77 yards / 4:57

In the 2nd half, Texas made a lot of defensive adjustments and pretty much shut everything down except for 2 plays….a 55 yard TD to Dallas Wilson on what was essentially a swing pass where he broke 4 tackles and abused the first guy at LOS, and a checkdown to RB that led to a 60 yard gain (led to FG). Outside of those 2 plays, they only gained 60 yards in the 2nd half, and threw a pick. Say all that to say….they pretty much hit zero big plays down the field in the passing game like we try to do. So maybe that doesn’t bode well for us.

UF also shut down their running game, crowded the box and made Arch try to beat them. Held them to 2.0 YPC. That’s going to be a must for us as well. If they get the running game going, we are done. UF ran the ball decently but not great themselves.

Overall, think we’ll have to jump on them early, and then hang on for dear life if we have any chance at all. Don’t be surprised if we don’t even sniff the goal line in the 2nd half. We’ll have to take care of the football if we’re fortunate enough to get a 10-14 point lead. That’s priority #1.
