If we go 5-11 in the SEC next year, with wins over

and 14-17 overall......what would you think of Ray's 1st year? Just based off of records.

I could live with that record in year 1 if we play hard. Considering the attrition, it would really encourage me bc it would likely mean freshmen leading us to those 14 wins.

Talk to me in 3 years, cause that's when I'll judge Rick Ray's performance, recruiting and development (something he harps on ALOT).

I look forward to attending games next year, nonetheless.

Did we play hard nosed defense? Did we respect our coaches? Did we not have a fight in the stands? Is the dumpster fire finally put out?

I could care less about our record next year. My judgement of Rick Ray will be based on how the team behaves, practices, prepares, and plays. Wins will eventually come if those things are taken care of.

I would be pleasantly surprised if we did that well next year. I'm not even sure people grasp what situation we're in right now. We have basically two players coming back who have EVER played meaningful minutes of college basketball. We also have Zeidaks and some decent recruits, but they aren't exactly world beaters.

To give you an indication, Georgia and Auburn both went 5-11 this year in the SEC and both beat us once in the regular season. We lose our entire starting 5, and we're supposed to do as well as they did this year? I doubt it. Honestly, I'd set the over/under at 2 or 2.5 SEC wins for us next year. Think more along the lines of what USC did this year.

Maybe I'm overly pessimistic, but we lost EVERYTHING, and we don't have a recruiting class coming in that is as good as the one with Jamont Gordon and company. Plus the SEC should be a pretty strong league this year.

I'm just hoping we play decent basketball this year and improve as the year goes on. If we had a 14-17, 5-11 record this year, I'd be optimistic about Rick Ray going forward. But like someone else said, give him 3-4 years and then judge him.

The worst teams in the league this year had more on their roster than what we'll most likely having next season so it wouldn't shock me to not win a damn game in the conference. If they're working their butts off and recruiting develops, I'm honestly ok with that. Year 2 will have a different set of expectations.

Obviously record will not be determining factor this year. That's why I said, based of of record alone. I thought that would be a damn good record looking at our current roster for next year. I too was looking at the quality of teams that achieved 5-11 records last year, and they had seniors and experience sprinkled in their line ups. We will not really have that, so I would be encouraged with 14-17, 5-11. If we play hard, good defense, and show good character to go along with that record......we will likely be headed in the right direction.

I have to agree with msudawg200, I'd take 14-17 (5-11) right now. Unfortunately, our football team will more than likely win more SEC games than our basketball team this coming year.

Assuming we're still in that tournament with some big named schools (can't remember which tournament it is off the top of my head) and assuming we have a few other decent (note: decent - such as at Detroit, home vs. Akron type games) schools on the nonconference schedule, then I think we'll be looking at more of a 10-21 (3-13) record. In other words, pretty similar to USC from a year ago.

So I'll adjust to 10-21 (3-15). I would think that the two additional SEC games would be more likely to replace two OOC games against decent teams than lower teams, so I'll stick to 7 wins in the OOC schedule. Even with an 18 game SEC schedule, I still don't see us winning 5 games.

UM extended Kennedy for a year with no raise and with a slight adjustment to his incentives to reflect additional SEC games per the C-L. I don't think there's much doubt we're going to an 18-game schedule with no divisions.
