I've heard that was a factor in his hiring, but I wasn't in the room when that happened. I hope not.
I also heard that he came highly recommended, and he was after all under consideration for the Bama job before then.
I don't care if the head coach is green, purple, black or maroon as long as he just <17>ing wins. I think most dawgs share that sentiment. On the other hand, as the events of yesterday may or may not have exemplified, our society should be beyond that consideration. Expectations, performance and results, should be the criterion of choice.
We broke the ice, broke through an SEC glass ceiling with his hire, just as in my day when our basketball team chose to defy state law and participate in the NCAA tournament. We made history then, just like yesterday, and that didn't result in a victory for us in the tourney...but it should have relieved our sports program of the "racist" term.
True equality means we are judged on results, not on what we look like.
