i figured we'd be 2-1 after week three, with a loss to auburn. so if croom wants to redeem himself in any way he can just go ahead and beat auburn next weekend .. barring no disasters tomorrow, of course.

please let us see eric richards and robert elliott .. give him the rock in the flat and let it ride

Actually, for me anyway, if we beat SELA and then somehow beat Auburn, it's going to irritate me even more. It won't be "hooray, we're back on track at 2-1!" It'll be "****, if we hadn't *@*!%$ around in Ruston we'd be 3-0 and in the top 25 somewhere.

I said we PROBABLY won't beat Auburn. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I don't think our team this year has much in common with those teams you mentioned other than early season losses. I do know that ALL of those teams were better coached than we are.

I mean the LT game is over and it will be an L from here to eternity. Nothing we can do about it. But I'm sure as heck not going to let a win over Auburn make me feel any worse about it. In fact, a win over Auburn right now would actually breathe life back into me as far as having some hope for this season. Right now I'm thinking 5-7 is about the best we can do. Only beating someone that I don't think we will (like an Auburn) will actually make me feel we have a least a fighting chance to finish out over .500 and make a bowl.

I don't get the idea that winning one game you shouldn't somehow makes up for losing a game you shouldn't have. Somehow beating Auburn would only add to the already long list of reasons we never should have lost to LA Tech.

This has been why Croom's teams have been so frustrating. For every game he's won that we probably shouldn't have, there's a loss that we had no business losing. Why must winning the games you should and winning the occasional game you shouldn't be mutually exclusive?

....2-1 is salvaging. Seriously, we need to go 3-1 to have the kind of season that we all hoped we'd have. 2-2 puts us on the path to getting 6 wins and salvaging the season from nothing, 3-1 puts us on track to do damage. We'll see. Right now, you'd have to say 1-3 is the most likely scenario.

I mean ****, does it ever get old being THAT damn pessimistic. I know this is 6pack and you have to be cool and all, but damn. And quit crying because I nitpicked your post. Isn't that also what you do on 6pack??

Is it somehow exclusive to be happy with an upset and yet irritated that we dropped a game to a team we should have rolled over? I don't set some finite goal at the end of the season and determine my elation or disappointment on how far we deviate from that. We should have beaten La Tech. Even if we win out, we should have had a better season. Now, I'd be elated with that sort of season, but there will always be that ****** loss that ruined what could have been.

that the rest of our season will suck regardless, just because we lost to Tech. That's stupid as hell. But to each his own. Who's to say we SHOULD always beat Tech? At their place? When they are probably a bowl team?

If we beat Auburn the La. Tech game will be the furthest thing from my mind.

I figured I'd go back and add that last sentence before anyone idiot thought that I'd be all sour and bitter over an 11 win season, but I see your in a posting zone today.

Who's to say we SHOULD always beat Tech?

****, I'll say it.

I can't wait for the day our football teams gives me something to be optimistic about like I was for most of Sherrill's first 10 years. Hell, I was even fairly optimistic going into the 2002 season because I figured 2001 had to be a fluke. But I can't be optimistic about what I've seen from Croom really ever since he got here.

I can be optimistic about the overall direction of our basketball and baseball programs now though. So I've got that going for me.

He's right in the scores he listed. Sometimes a team may need a wake up call and we sure as hell got one. Go back to Bama in 99, who by the way beat us in a nail biter. The were being sold down the river as done after that La. Tech loss, and fought back and won the outright conference. Hell, La. Tech almost beat them in 92 during their Nat. Champ. run had David Palmer not returned a punt for a TD. Look at it this way, we did everything we could to lose that game. It just wasn't our night. Now if we lose Saturday, then Croom better hire a Realtor.

Also, I suppose you took "we never should have lost to LA Tech" to mean that "we SHOULD always beat Tech."

That's clearly not what I meant.

You can honestly say that if we went 11-1, not even in the remotest parts of both of your minds, would you say, "damn, if we had beaten Tech like we should have, we'd be playing for a National Championship."

How hard is to realize that's what I'm saying? We should have beaten Tech. It's a skid mark on this season. It's a season that can turn out decently still. It's one that can go to the *******. But no amount of wins or losses changes the fact that we lost to a team that we should have soundly beaten.

really, no smart assness. Is there really that much difference in how Croom runs the show, and how Sherrill ran the show? I mean when you get down to it, it's the same timeline, except kindof in reverse. Sherrill dropped games we were "supposed" to win. Very inconsistent in the level of motivation of the players. Used JUCOs, couldn't get a QB. Both use the Bear philosophy.

They both had their own personalities, like how Jackie could piss everybody off, castrating bulls, etc. Croom uses the character angle.

But are they really that different? Jackie, when you look back, did some dumb coaching too at times. And remember, he started with a full cupboard after Rockey. Croom, well, didn't.

If we go 11-1, I'll be tickled to death that we are 11-1. <17> Tech if that happens. Will you also be pissed that we beat LSU or whoever, because we weren't "supposed" to??

You're the dense one here, pal.

I haven't seen a State team that can manage the clock at the end of a half or a game on either side of the ball, with very few exceptions.

What if they're on the bench for a reason? Sometimes we find that out the hard way.

Just a thought.

and just let them play. Stansbury figured it out. I think Jackie did too. Funny thing is, Croom could get away with it.

If we go 11-1, I will be even MORE pissed off that we lost to La Tech. Yeah, I'll be happy, but if someone said all we had to do to go unbeaten was beat La Tech on the road, I would probably feel pretty good about our chances. Bottom line is, there are certain games that you are supposed to win in football. For an SEC team, La Tech would be a must win. We didn't get it done, and our coaches and players should be raked over the coals no matter what for it.
