if we win this week and next week, we'll be back on track

You will gladly take beating someone we really have no business beating (i.e. a team more talented than us) but you can't get over that someone might possibly beat us that shouldn't have. Heck, if we somehow pull off 2 or 3 upsets along the way this year and only lose to one team we shouldn't have, in my book we DID do better than we should have and I'll take it. Every Saturday is a new game, and if you are going to allow for the possibility that we can possibly beat some folks we have no business beating, then by the same token, someone could potentially do the same to us. Especially when you are talking about going on the road to play a season opener. Turnovers and screwups are all part of it and that's why the game isn't played on paper.

but that doesn't make it any easier to stomach for me. Especially when it is a game we really need in a season when we need it desperately.

Heck, I'm extremely ticked about the LT game too. But I will be less ticked if we pick up some unexpected wins ourselves this season.</p>

And he definitely didn't win as many games as he should have at MSU. But, he recruited better players than Croom does and won a lot more games than Croom has. As for the cupboard being full when Jackie took over, that's an overstatement. He definitely took over a much better program than Croom did, and Jackie deserves all the blame for Croom's first year or two. But by year freaking 5 it shouldn't matter any more what condition the program was in when you took it over. It's your program now. And when I look at our program now, I'm not real happy with what I see.

but the vast majority of the time, a team coming off a momentum-building bowl year after well-documented suckitude should throttle most WAC teams, regardless of location. Or at least squeak one out at the end. At least 95% of the time. So I can be the guy to say that. Plus I played in high school, so my opinion counts double, right?

In spite of your piss poor attitudes - stuff like:

If we beat Auburn I'll still **** green because we lost to LA-Tech.

If I win Powerball lottery Saturday night my year will still suck because I lost a nickel yesterday in the coke machine.

If (insert your wonder babe's name here) offered me 45 free no strings attached, anything I wanted minutes in the rack this would be the worst week ever because (insert most awful woman you've ever known) said yesterday that my breath smelled like goat turds.

If someone offered me a free Lotus Pantera, I'd hate them forever because I wanted a Hummer which I can't afford because of gas.

The facts relating to MeridianDog:

- I have loved the Bulldogs since 1959, maybe earlier than that becasue I was a dumb little kid and didn't know better.
- I sat in the stadium in Jackson (fall of 1968) and yelled "Archie Who?" and found out in the very worst way who Archie was.
- I was there when we beat the Bear and when Maine beat us.
- I have seen State beat nationally ranked teams and then get killed the next week by JC level teams.
- I have all but cried when other coaches constantly did worse than Sly will ever do to us.
- I have seen receivers catch 40 yard passes against us and dance to the endzone while Bulldog defenders stood and pointed "yo-fault" fingers at each other.
- I will root for the Dogs this weekend. If they win I'll be happy. If they lose I'll be there for Auburn with equal hope that we will win that game.
- I know that MSU will never be a powerhouse, because that takes 100+- good men who would happily give $1,000,000.00 to the program if needed to assure success, and ten (no the truth is twenty) years of those men giving to build the program. Sly hasn't done it in five? ********! Give him ten or twenty and more money than you'll ever see and then he might make you happy
- Proof? I have a business associate in Tampa who has his Seminole helmut on his office desk and a huge Seminole rug on the wall behind his desk. His Red Skins Jersey is on the wall off to one side becasue it's not as important. He laughs and tells stories of offering players $2000.00 for their bowl game warm up sweats, because "I've always wanted a pair and they didn't give them that nice when I was an all American or when I played for the RedSkins - By the way, I'll get you up to see them in this offseason." He says he buys ticket packs from players for $5,000 dollars because he needs them for business freebies. For whatever he is, he is not a liar and I believe him.
- I will go wherever the Dogs play if they happen to get a bowl game this year, and not worry a bit that OM got a better game (Memphis vs Shreveport).
- I have learned to live with the fact that Jackie was selling cars or something like that when he accepted the call to Starkville, and Sly took the job as a warrior for his race.
- Can we afford to spend what Alabama pays their coach? (nope) Would we get "Alabama Quality Players" if we had him? (nope) Will we beat LSU? maybe - someday which is what keeps me going to the games.

- Do I want to root for any school other than MSU? - Hell no. I am a BullDog. I bleed maroon.

- I could buy Crimson red, erect a shrine to the Bear in my den and start Screaming "Roll Tide" tomorrow. I could buy a ton of Orange stuff, some orange socks, orange tassle loafers and learn the words to Rockytop tonight. I could buy a case of cheap corn whiskey and find a table in the grove Saturday - I own Dockers, have a freshly laundered heavily starched white button down collar shirt and a $300.00 Blue Blazer in my closet. I could fake all of that OM stuff until I got good at it - Why, just listen to me, "Hotty Toddy - where's my ice" - sounds authentic doesn't it? I know people who suck crawfish heads and follow them up with a corn dog. I like gumbo and Old Crow. I could root for the Tigers down in Red Stick (WHo dat?) right away.

However, This weekend I will be a bulldog. I will tailgate, eat sausage, cheese and have my Diet Dr Pepper. I will leave my cowbell in the car, because it gives me a headache. I will take my seats on the 50 yard line (upper deck) and pull all the way for the dogs. We will not leave early and we will stay at our seats longer than most of those around us if we win. I'll drive past the dorm and the Union before leaving campus and I'll come back next week, too, win or lose.

Being a BullDog makes you strong, and I am a tough old buzzard.

How hard is to realize that's what I'm saying? We should have beaten Tech. It's a skid mark on this season. It's a season that can turn out decently still. It's one that can go to the *******. But no amount of wins or losses changes the fact that we lost to a team that we should have soundly beaten.
A good team could bounce back from LaTech and think about what might have been. We are not a good team and never will be as long as Croom is our coach.
