If what Rosebowl says is accurate...

...(and I firmly believe it is given the amount of direct quotes he's been able to publish) the Mullen hire is going over like gangbusters with with all our commits, other top uncommitted prospects and even a few who've been looking elsewhere.

From initial reaction, I may have underestimated how much influence the words "offensive coordinator from the Florida Gators" might have on Mississippi kids. Mullen needs to strike while the iron is very, very hot. ....and the DC choice is going to be critical.

...Rosebowl does tend to let his wool get out of control from time to time, and really, what are the recruits supposed to say? That said, I hope it truly is how he's painting it. Some guys are interested, sure, but there's still a couple of months to this thing and the Bamas, Floridas, and LSUs of the world aren't going to quit recruiting.

It's nice to daydream about McPhee, Boyd, Patterson, Bumphis, and Russell all in maroon next year, though. We need to hit the jucos for a couple of o-linemen, too.

I was just going through them again and its crazy how many kids are interested now that Mullen has been announced. The A. Phillips news is one I am really glad to hear. M. Phillips is just getting ridiculous. Glad to see Cox recruiting for us.

Mullen has an in-home visit with Pernell McPhee tomorrow. That is huge and a good first test.

It appears we at least have a shot to close with Bumphis, Thames, Patterson, McCray, Lampley and even Aubrey Phillips. Hold on to the commits and land 4 of those 6 and it's a great class.</p>

...but I also don't think he fabricates quotes or even attempts to twist a recruit's words or take them out of context. And still.. the stuff he's been publishing that's coming out of Mobile right now is pretty sweet.

Oh.. and recruiting wise, the timing of this hire is wonderful. Lots of the top prospects all neatly gathered together for a few days of thinking about nothing but football. With them all looking to Tyler Russell for some advice.

Damn... somebody go get the shears.

that talent dearth was problem #1 at dear ol state. I gotta believe you're feeling woolier tonight than you have in a long time. What's your take on OL recruits mullen can target?

Not to go overboard, but after seeing these guys play, don't you think an offensive skill class of Russell, Conner, Bumphis, Thames, and Patterson would be by far the best we've ever gotten?
Norwood and Turner in the same class was strong, but we haven't had a dynamic WR in awhile. We've had good ones such as Burks and McRae, but having Bumphis and Thames as X-factor (harvin) types will really make this offense dangerous in the very near future if we can block someone

Connor said on rivals.....So now that Croom is gone, is Conner following suit?

"No sir, not yet," Conner said. "I am still verbally committed. I'm looking forward to going there it just depends on what coach. I'd hate to go there and they get a coach that comes in there and runs the spread and they become a spread team and change the whole thing up."

So does that sound like he is coming???

Nah...after the press conference, they'll fly to Tupelo, drive to Fulton & visit McPhee, drive back to Tupelo and have the press conference, then hop back on the jet to Meridian

If he's on any position of the offense... I don't see what was attractive in Croom's offense.

Once Coach Dan explains to him that MSU had one of the worst rushing offenses in college football this year and his offense had one of the top rushing offenses I think connor will still be on board.

Everyone else wants him as a LB.

If he de-commits, we better use his scholarship and Hollingsworth's on JUCO o-linemen.

You are right. My wool is thick right now, but a lot can happen between now and signing day.

Emmanuel McCray is going to take an official visit to MSU. Aubrey Phillips is the best in the state and it's reported that he is having a good time with Russell and crew. Mullen needs to give him a call immediately. Gabe Jackson is a good prospect.

I also like Jonathan Guerry out of New Hope. He is committed to USM, but would jump ship for an MSU offer. His parents are big state fans (his mom was Ms MSU back in the day). Nutt invited him to the Egg Bowl yet he never heard a word from Croom and company. He is a legit 6'5, 290 with long arms. Good student, good kid, hard worker. It doesn't make sense not to offer if we have an open scholly.

Unfortunately, none of this will do us any good for next year. But McCray, Phillips, Jackson, Guerry, and Watts would be a nice crew for the future. As you know, great teams are built from the inside out.

He's not one that's like, eh, oh well if he leaves. We need to keep him.

Conner was going to take a visit to FL, so I think we still land him. I hope we get rid of the QB from AL, and sign all the OL, and DL we can
