If you are a NFL GM, do you take a chance on Michael Vick?

If you were the GM on your favorite NFL team would you take a chance on the dog whisperer himself? He could change you team completely and make you a contender or tear your team down from the inside with distractions and faded talent.

For the most part he seems to keep his mouth shut. Who knows what 2 or 3 years in prison did to him, but 3 years ago he was the most athletic guy in the NFL.

let someone else fight that fight. If I am the 49er's or Texans I may take a chance but the cons out weigh the pros for almost every team in the league.

he wasn't a good passer or decision maker and two full years completely out of the game is a long time.

on my team and what I have at QB. If I were the Saints- one of my favorites, by I'm hardly a diehard, I would take a chance on him and use him as a backup to Brees and let him come in as a change of pace style QB, line him up occasionally as a WR, maybe use him as a RB. I think Vick could be a good complement to a guy like Brees or a Peyton Manning even.

If I had a team that needed a QB, and he was the best one available, I would be willing to give him a long look. The 5 weeks out would concern me in that situation though.

He's not as young as he used to be first off, I don't see the crap you have to put up with being worth what he can bring. I would never consider him for QB but he could be a good receiver. The big problem is that unlike raping someone or smoking crack or shooting someone the PETA people are batshit crazy and they will NOT let it go. You will have a full blown protest outside of every single game and the media will be more than happy to point cameras at them and report that story. It's just not worth the hassle.

but I'm sure someone will take the risk.

I think Plaxico Burress should get the same uproar for what he did but I'm not so sure he will.

I don't see what the big deal is with Burress, and I think it's ridiculous the DA is wanting to send him to jail, period... much less for 2 years. It's equally ridiculous that his career is probably ruined because of it. Obviously, he's a moron for shooting himself, but no one except him was injured and he wasn't trying to injure or kill anyone. He was just too stupid to learn how to properly conceal a weapon, and he was in a state that thinks guns are the epitome of evil.

......he was a great "quarterback," but he's a hell of an athlete who could help a team in a number of ways, including backup QB if needed.

The bottom line right now is that Michael Vick was punished, and deservedly so, for a disgusting crime. But that's the point, he was in fact punished, where as so many other celebrities or professional athletes seem to get away with as bad or worse crimes. For once, somebody of his stature paid his debt to society. So why shouldn't he play again? He still has a right to make a living.

What's sad here to me is that Vick gets two years in the Federal pokey, while Donte' Stallworth gets less than a month in jail and 2 years house arrest for killing a man. I know this board has a few people who defended that situation, but I don't see how. Just because he can pay off the family doesn't mean he has the right to escape a prison term. I don't have a few million to buy my way out of the same scenario.

He did his time and now he is square with the house. Why not get him cheap and see what you can do with him. Maybe even make him into the next "slash" (cordell stewart). If he sucks or drags the team down then boot him. Not much lost since he won't get a premium paycheck, but possibly a lot to gain.

on him. I agree that he should have been reinstated, but I would let another team take a chance on him. He wasn't a great qb anyway.
