I'll give it a shot.
Right now I'm hooked on my Jamey Johnson channel on pandora.

It doesn't

get better than Waylon, but Sturgill does a great job trying to replicate that sound.

Only 3 songs in. Outstanding so far.

Excellent recommendation. Was expecting some ******** about drinking fruity drinks on the beach or driving pickups down dirt roads. This is my definition of country music.

I don't think he is trying to replicate him

I just think his voice is very similar

Not bc it's your recommendation.

Seems like every time someone recommends a new country artist, it's the same regurgitated Nashville hybrid of pop and alternative music. Guess I should pick friends with better taste in country music...

Yeah

I'm not sure if he's trying or not, but what I meant was his band is configured so that it does. From the heavy pedal and base use, to the telecaster. It just is very similar, Texas-style country.

I've seen Sturgill a few times

And his live shows are a real treat. His guitar player is from Estonia and is an absolute BEAST!!

His lead guitarist has the old steel/ chicken picken sound of the 70's nailed too. I'm impressed so far. Pandora Chanel is now set.
Thanks for the tip hatfield.

Jamey Johnson's "Lonesome Song" album is one of my favorites. Haven't spent a lot of time with his new one- not that it's not good.

In that same vein, give Corb Lund a listen

He's Canadian, but he comes from a longtime ranching family, and it shows.

+1 for the Sturgill Simpson recommendation

James Hand --the real Deal

If you want real country try Him.--or if you want a real Woman Country singer try Amber Digby.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I think that an OT music suggestion thread would be addition to the board.

Texas Dirt Road is a good on one Pandora. Play Charlie Daniels, Merle, Waylon mixed with current stuff like Aaron Lewis and Cross Canadian Ragweed. I've found a lot of good bands on there that I would have otherwise never hever heard of

I'll throw in Jason Isbell's "Southeastern" and Neko Case's "Blacklisted". Both are excellent records.

Hey hatfieldms. May be the best suggestion I have seen here. That guy is the real deal. Had not heard of him before. Thanks a bunch for the tip.

Some great artists there, but Sawyer Brown has always been my fav

I'm not old enough to remember them winning Ed McMahon's Star Search in the early 80's but not long after that I feel in love with them. Can't wait to see them for the first time in person Friday night in Corinth.

Semi thread hijack. There used to be a station out of Alabama somewhere. I would listen to it on late night projects in Montgomery Hall. It was called the "All Night Trucking Show". This was in the early 90's. It was the last time I truly remember a true DJ broadcasted station.
Anybody else remember this?
