I did notice that in 2007 Bama was 6-6 and got shipped to shreveport so that would be something to support the rule.

Assuming LSU beats Arkansas and Aub wins the SEC, would LSU go to the Sugar over Sakerlina since they have the better SEC record?

Losing the SEC Championship is rarely a path to a BCS Bowl.Arkansas may even make it in if they beat LSU. Carolina's only way to the BCS is by winning the SEC.

Sounds like a rule that only applies to Bama, Florida, etc.....

Slive isn't going to tip his hand needlessly. He'll wait until all the necessary games are decided, and then he'll announce that there are 'misunderstandings' and 'clarify' that 6 win teams can take an 8 win teams spot.

* That's a rule for life, not just football.

A 6 can jump a 7 as long as there is still a SEC bowl for the 7 win team to go to. If there are only 7 SEC Bowl spots but 8 bowl eligible SEC teams then the bowls cant select a 6 win team over a 7 win team, meaning the 7 win team would stay at home and not bowl at all. but if there are 8 bowl spots and 8 SEC teams, a 6 can jump a 7 but not an 8.

Would love to see State picking Cotton--I'll be in Dallas, and would love to see the game! I really think that the Bulldogs match up well with likely Big 12-2 teams: aTm vs. State would be a great game. <div>
</div><div>Edit to add: Dallas exposure and dollars would be great for recruiting! JerryWorld would be great for current players.</div>

Music City's turn comes up, and State and Tenn are both on the board. Music City picks Tenn. SECNCAA says "no, State has 8 wins and Tenn only has 6, so you have to take State". Music City says "by what written rule?, by terms of our contract we can pick Tenn.". SEC/NCAA says what in response? They can't point to the rule about 6 win teams, because they are both already on record as saying it doesn't apply as long as the passed over team goes to a bowl.

we just know there is nothing in writing publicly available via the world wide web. That's what I meant when I said there is nothing in writing.

The contract may very well say they can't take a 6 over an 8.

....he won't be as busy after this weekend. too bad his replacement sucks.

For all we know, the contract may be very deferential to the SEC. But based on past history, how the SEC bends over backwards to please the bowls ($$$), i wouldn't bet on it.

I would bet no one anticipated this. It never would have mattered under the old structure, where SEC #3-5 was guaranteed at least the Peach. and Liberty/Music City picked together. under that system, you could only go to a bowl one beneath where you deserved, whether they designed it that way or not. and the only team that would really get screwed by this new system is State, and to a lesser extent Ole Miss.

though i find it hilarious that a week ago i was explaining that we did indeed need to worry about being passed over for a team with 1 more loss than us (and that we beat), and now the goalposts have moved to worrying about teams with 2 more losses than us.</p>

According to Knoxville radio (so take all this for what its worth), the MCB does not want Kentucky. They have been 3 of the past 4 years and their attendance is starting to drop. They really want UT, but won't take a 6-6 UT over a 8-4 MSU. The Chick-fil-A and Gator will apparently not take a 6-6 team over a 7-5 team (if it can be avoided).

From what I have been told, the only way we will fall back to the Liberty Bowl would be...

1. We lose to OM
2. Tennessee beats Kentucky
3. Only 1 SEC team in the BCS somehow

In this worst case for us.....South Carolina, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Alabama, Florida fill the Sugar, Capitial One, Outback, Cotton, Gator, Chick-fil-A, the Music City Bowl takes Tennessee, and we go to the Liberty.
