you can tell DT Shackleford really didn't care about winning the Egg Bowl.

I cant watch it at work (out of date flash.. BASTARDS!).... But if thats The Season week 13 video, notice how there is a lot of sniffles and nubbing in the locker room during the post game speech. Also... Im not sure ive ever heard a coach tell his players that he is going to go out and get more recruits to beat us... Its like he is saying "you werent good enough, but ill find someone who is". Odd.

I thought it was a pretty ugly game, but both teams played very hard

I don't see how anyone can say anything else. Maybe we weren't prepared, played like ****, or simply got beat. I personally view it as what happens in a rivalry game. Throw the records out the window, expect an in-TENTS game, and who knows who will end up winning.

OP... I admittedly haven't read much from the OM side following the Egg Bowl loss because I immediately got tired of reading through all the bitching, but what are your thoughts in terms of why OM struggled so much offensively? Obviously, I was pleasantly surprised at their ineptitude, but I was very surprised nonetheless at their inability to move the ball. I still can't believe how rarely they challenged our secondary.

That was odd. Pretty much telling the guys he didn't have enough good players. If I was a current player I would be thinking...'Thanks coach, appreciate it.'

can our media dept steal that game day intro? our whole damn media department needs a serious reevaluation. how can an episode of something be better than anything i have seen us produce in my lifetime? the disparity is getting embarrassing.

Our O-line couldn't block after Tunsil got hurt. I think we should have taken more shots downfield, I'm comfortable throwing tossups to Donte or Treadwell any time we have a one on one. I just don't think Bo had time, I thought he played fine second half. I also don't know why we insist on running inside, when the beginning of our season we were great outside. We should do both. Things like lining up in the shotgun with your DT five yards behind him on 4th and 1 is just stupid. And your defense played really well. Actually I thought both defenses played well, and both offenses were pretty ugly for the most part.

I'm not blaming the loss on the injury to Tunsil, just why I think we didn't take more downfield shots.

the difference was Jones..............l

he controlled the line of scrimmage. That let State roam around playing almost a 4-7. Deep shots weren't really there and I don't think Wallace would have had time anyway.

2 things:

1) Nice hold by #71 on the Wallace run and fumble
2) In the post-game locker room scene, Grant heard either just took a bump of coke, had a fantastic idea, or smelled a ridiculous fart. Check out his eyes.(21:40 mark)

The production quality was good on that but

the music and speeches, even the title (the season), seem a little melodramatic. It makes it seem like they care and want to win every game when that it obviously not the case.

You ever watched Hard Knocks. They are copying that. And they do a great job with that show.

I think on the wide stuff, Alabama kind of showed what to do against that. I think bama's defensive ends started playing incredibly wide against UM. Teams saw that and learned.

I would throw downfield to Moncrief as well. But, unlike last year, he was never one on one against a safety. State's old defensive coordinator used our two NFL caliber corners last year to blitz against UM. This year we did not need to blitz, and when State did blitz, it was with a LB or Safety. State could play the safeties deep.

The production value with both are fantastic. I love everything about The Season vids except that they are about OM.

Our production department must not care about our projects.

I agree Bama showed how to stop the outside run, but once we started running inside, teams weren't playing exclusively to the outside any more. We should have mixed it up.

Maybe Bo didnt feel comfortable throwing tossups to Donte or Treadwell because he threw 2 interception going downfield. And the two he did throw downfield that were intercepted were both freak interceptions.

I find it hard to believe that we do not have the talent or dollars to produce something equal to or better than what they can put out. Scott should get on this immediately this is promotion 101.

First off yes Chris Jones was an incredible force. But McKinney played VERY well as well as Taveze. Go back and watch that 4th & 2 (OP was talking about) when Robert is in the backfield. Nick Parker is in the at FB. And Ben hits the "A" gap SO hard the FB absolutely HAS to meet him. And it forces Robert to tip toe and allows Chris to swallow him up. Look that's unselfish football on Ben's part. Plain & simple. So many times I see in my day to day guys would rather make the selfish play. If Ben does it, then Robert gets the 1st possibly his girth & speed could carry him into the EZ.

The biggest thing I took away from the game was this. They lose ALOT of OL (5). I don't care who you are, you lose 5 OLmen, that's huge. I agree with OP, their offense sputtered for a huge reason was because our front 4 beat their front base 5 time after time. After Tunsil went down, they scrambled to fill his HUGE void (very good player). Aaron Morris will be back, he's pretty good but honestly that's about it. These two are IT! That doesn't bode well for them, especially after the Oxford Eagle reporter said Hugh "has to win 9"? Plus Marry was & is the most consistent player on defense they have. He doesn't hurt their defense with STUPID penalties. Plus a bookoo of others. I do believe Freeze can be what they need, but (huge BUT) are they going to give him time?

You don't be a 10 win team without player development! Period! Bo left Arky St because he felt he wasn't being developed by Freeze. It looks like the same movie just a different scene. Could be bad.

OP, I think teams starting taking the outside game away starting with Bama.

I think other teams copied the Bama scheme and for the most part it worked. I agree it was hard to understand why they didn't just throw it down field more to those big wide receivers but after watching again I agree, Bo didn't have time. The turnovers were the killer and kept us in the game. With that said if we had a healthy Dak and you had fewer turnovers I think we would have beat you worse, not a flame, I just think we were really ready to play.

Sorry, I duplicated what many had already said didn't read the whole thread.

and it carries over to his fan base. They live and breath recruiting and

while I understand it is important it is only part of the formula for success. One thing for sure is you can't suck at it or you will get left behind. Great recruiting can also cover up deficiencies in other areas which is nice.

My thing about Tunsil going down -- Did McCray not start 13 games for you last year including the Egg Bowl at the spot and begin this year as the starter? He had 16 career starts before Tunsil went down. The OL should have still been ok even with that injury...

The one that really killed you IMO was losing Aaron Morris early. Took awhile for teams to figure out how to exploit Golson(too young but talented) and your other backups -- but they did.

I see OM as a potentially very good team next year -- just got to find a way to fill 2 holes and grab some depth(hope for no injuries) on the OL. Assuming health and pre-injury form(which may be a little much to ask with all 3 being injured on different levels), Morris, Golson, and Tunsil are a very nice base to build from.

I think Freeze just lost all confidence in Bo throwing it downfield -- since most of the times he tried early ended badly. When Justin Cox basically went higher than Moncrief to grab that jump ball from about 11 feet in the air(amazing play -- best of his career thusfar), IMO Freeze just decided he couldn't continue taking that risk...

bo's arm isnt what it was pre surgery. i have watched a good deal of om football this year and they have hardly thrown a pass longer than 15-20 yards downfield. they thought they could hide it with the relentless bubble screens, short, and intermediate routes, but defenses have really collapsed on them. most of their passing yards are after catch. my opinion anyway.

I think that manager giving the pep talk before their scrimmage was the one who

you can tell DT Shackleford really didn't care about winning the Egg Bowl.

held up/grabbed Nickoe on the sidelines during OM's opening possession.
