I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Actually, I was born in Illinois. My mother and father were on an oleo margarine run to Chicago back in 1934, because we couldn't get colored margarine in Wisconsin. On the way home, my mother was with child. Me. And the pains started, and my dad pulled off into an exit area, and that's where the event took place. I remember it was a Nativity type setting. An exit light shining down. There were three truck drivers there. One guy was carrying butter, one guy had frankfurters, and the other guy was a retired baseball scout who told my folks that I probably had a chance to play somewhere down the line.

1Admittedly a homer pick but deserving. I first heard about Mattingly when I was in junior high. My English teacher aunt told me about this kid at her school who was a late-round draft selection by the Yankees. I have two replica jerseys. One of them is a Red Sox Papelbon shirt; the other, a Yankees Mattingly shirt. Yes, yes, I know... guys my age aren't supposed to wear replica jerseys.

Alomar

Mattingly

Blyleven

Larkin

Mcgwire

Morris

Murphy

Smith

Trammell

Parker

This list without Mattingly is a joke. You can say the numbers aren't Hall worthy, but neither are Murphy's. It's a different era. I also think keeping Mcgwire out is a joke, but I also think Rose should be in. If you are going to keep guys out for character flaws like Rose, then you have to take out half the guys there.

As for Mcgwire, the guy was a beast BEFORE roids. I agree that maybe you don't vote him in first ballot, but he has to get in.

Any mention of Raines or Dawson should immediately stop. You don't get in for SB's, and you don't get in for a good year or two.

I really don't think he belongs in the HOF. He was great for 4 years but the rest of his career was very mediocre and the last 5 or so years were just sad.

I could see the argument for pretty much everyone else on your list, I may not agree with it, but Baines?

I always thought of him as a poor man's Fred McGriff.

He had over 100 Rbi's only three times. He never hit more than 30 homers.

Pretty much is only claim to fame is playing for 20 years.

onto the field after a bs strikeout call that was below his knees. Even though I'm not a Cubs fan, The Hawk was always one of my favorite players. Congrats Hawk!

you really should go to the HOF in Cooperstown. Went there in 2007 and it was one of the best places I've ever been. I got chills reading the plaques of all the greatest players of all time. And try the Cooperstown Diner just down the street for one of the best cheeseburgers in America.
