If you think Kodi is going to play inside tonight, think again.

Straight from the coach's mouth via Veazey.
Stansbury with a descriptive assessment of a key to the game: “I mean, we don’t have an advantage guarding (Patrick) Patterson
on the block, right? Well, we should have an advantage (with) Patterson
doing what? (He pauses, like your teacher would when he/she wanted you
to answer.) Chasing us around. How do you have the advantage there?
Make some shots. That’s the difference in the contrast. We need to make
some shots in that position. If we don’t, it’s hard to win the war.”
So there you have it. You don't chase someone around who plays in the high or low post. You chase guys on the perimeter. Kodi doesn't play inside because he's told to be a perimeter player. Per Stansbury.

Just like the really packed in zone we're going to play tonight is not what we do every game.

I believe we would be a much different and a much better team if we practiced Kodi and Osby creating and driving inside and kicking the ball out for 3's when covered. I don't mind them occasionally outside the arc but this quote leads me to believe that the reason our team, especially Kodi and Osby, are so awkward driving to the basket is simply because we never practice it.

where Kodi playing on the perimeter isn't a bad idea. Patterson and/or Cousins would eat his lunch down low.

thats just the plan tonight?

Have you not watched us play all freaking year?

Stansbury wants Kodi on the 17'ing perimeter. He even says it. And yet some of you still want to blame Kodi for being on the perimeter. Wow

Then let's hope Rick has him practicing following his shot. Also, this plan does not allow for Patterson or Cousins to get into foul trouble which would be another way for us to stay in this game.

You, sir, are the delusional one. Delusional in your hatred. I know Kodi basically won't do what the coaches want, cause I've had a conversation with a couple of them before about him. The problem is they have no other options right now with Elgin unavailable and Sidney not cleared to play. We're simply having to play the hand we're dealt with Kodi.

Think Kodi matches up reasonably well with either of those guys, as well as most teams could ever hope to match up against NBA talent like that.

I would rather have Kodi's 6'8" somewhere near the basket for offensive boards and putbacks. That has been one of his best contributions this year....alongwith some nice passing and assists lately. Him floating around the arc is a waste, especially when he remains in a shooting funk. Nobody is crashing the boards from the perimeter.

With this strategy, we have to shoot lights out from 3 (which is always possible at home), to win the game.

Maybe Kodi goes offDonte' Jones style vs Kentucky way back when? Then Calipari can draft him Pitino-style whenhe becomes the coach of theCavs? Will Kodi be bald and fat playing in Japan 10 yrs from now? The possibilities are endless.

If that's really such a problem sit his *** down and start Osby. How can any coach have control of his team when he won't sit players who don't do what they're asked to do?

Kodi is our 4th stand and shoot player in the motion offense. Just watch any game and you see it. 4 on the perimeter and SWAT down low, that's our offense.
So either Stans has no control over our players and/or we really have no offensive game plan. Start Osby.

Instead of finding another quote where Stansbury says Kodi is a perimeter player, how about you find one where he says that we really need Kodi scoring in the post. I'll await your reply.

I'm too lazy to go dig it up now. But in that preseason article, Rick said he considered Kodi to be "a guard." If Rick didn't want him playing on the perimeter, he wouldn't be.

so let me get this straight...

You're telling me that Kodi wont do anything the coaches say, and we play him anyway? I think that warrants Stansbury being fired. If you cant control the team, its time for you to go.

As D@A said, we have a quote with Stansbury talking about Kodi playing the perimeter. And its also the way we have played for the last 2 years.

You on the otherhand, have no quote what-so-ever beacking up your side that Stansbury wants him playing in the post....

There's a reason for that. I'll let you figure that out

Got one poster saying that Stans sitting Ravern for missing practice is stupid. That he should be punished some "other way" other that not playing. Then here we have guys saying Stans is stupid for playing Kodi if Kodi doesn't do what the coaches ask him. That he's "lost control" of the team.

Play 'em or don't play 'em, Stans. Either way, you are wrong.

I forgot to respond to this part. So you mean to tell me the coach who started Turner at the 4 for 20+ games last year does not have the option of doing that this year? Last year we played five guys 29+ minutes in SEC play. Benock and Osby combined for another 22. This year Jarvis has already taken all of Brian Johnson's minutes from last year (29 ppg last year to 35 mpg this year). If Stansbury was so inclined, he could put Phil at the 4, where he
plays most of the time anyway, and give him most of Kodi's minutes and put Kodi back at the 6 minutes per night he got last year, which essentially is what Bailey got last year.. Guess what we would have then....five guys (four of them small) playing 29+ minutes with and Benock and Osby playing another 25 or so and Kodi getting 6-10. Basically the same as last year.

Don't act like Bailey and Sidney have anything to do with this.

and no where in it is the name Kodi Augustus. Is part of the quote missing? The part where he specifically says that Kodi will draw Patterson? Or is everybody just assuming.

Wouldnt that require any player that Patterson guards to actually move without the ball? I dont expect Patterson to get too tired standing in one spot guarding someone on the perimeter. Hopefully Stans has a new gameplan to actually move players around without the ball whether it be Kodi or the whole team.

make them chase whoever they are guarding. Of course, that assumes we actually have some movement on offense.

Cousins will take Jarvis. Wall will take Dee. Bledsoe will take Randy.

That leaves Patterson and Dodson to take Ravern and Kodi. Dodson is more of a perimeter guy than PP. so one would figure that he is on Ravern. That leaves Patterson, their 4 man if you like labels, to guard Kodi, who is our version of the 4 man. I don't think it's that hard to figure out who he is talking about.

What it might mean too is that he plans on playing Phil a lot more tonight to force Patterson to guard him. The problem is that Phil is shooting dreadfully this year. If I were Cal I would tell Patterson to stay in the neighborhood with Turner and let him shoot threes before you let him drive.
