And if he comes to UK and pulls some stunt like the kind of crap he did at Arkansas and the University gets successfully sued for $50,000,000, the administration and BOT won't be mollified that he won some football games.
those places weren't successfully sued. but yeah, UK does have inept leadership so we'd prob lose.

Was glad we didn't hire him; still glad we didn't hire him. And frankly I like being up on my moral high horse. It is where I want to be. It beats being in the no moral horse manure.

Same. I knew that Petrino wins games. I also knew that he created a massive scandal or bad press wherever he's been....and usually after just a few yrs. I'm still not convinced he won't do it again at UL either.

The Stoops hire was a home run. A lot of people feel Smart was a home run hire for UGA.....top coordinator at an elite level, under a elite coach. Now look at Stoops.....high name pedigree, one of the hottest coord at an elite school, under a great coach, etc. You make the best decision with the information you have at the time. The hire was sound.

And it looked good at first. He certainly has been able to recruit (on paper) better than I though he would. It likely was his name and excitement that got the donations. Mitch has been able to get funding for many sports but not football. Mitch + Brooks couldn't get it done and that was during one of the best bowl streaks in 50-60 yrs. We got funding for shiny facilities when Stoops entered the equation.

So, I certainly don't fault Mitch for hiring Stoops. However, I do find fault with giving Stoops an extension before he really did anything. Stoops has not been to a bowl game. He does not have a signature win to hang his hat on. He has 2 "almost" seasons that experienced a massive collapse....and that's it. An extension was the wrong move. And now we're out of options. If we wanted Brohm (or some other hot name) we likely won't be able to dump Stoops for $12 mil and find another coach.

We're financially stuck to Stoops for at least another yr. Maybe it does work out and Stoops gets it going.....but it ain't lookin good right now.

Many of the same people that turn their nose up at hiring a tainted FB coach would welcome him with open arms if he roamed the hardwood.

Some fans think it's a zero sum game, that somehow FB success would take away from the BB program. A rising tide raises ALL boats.

I'd argue that BCG was twice the train wreck Petrino is and fans welcomed him with open arms. Hell, he banged a players GF, but Petrino is the scumbag.

Also love the feller taking the moral high ground and calling me a scumbag for wanting Petrino. Guess you missed "judge not lest ye be judged" day at church.

Fine with the decision. Just as soon as he never coaches here. Love him so much, fine. Follow his exploits and whatever team he coaches.

Did petrino commit a crime? We would all love petrino if he was our coach and winning games, like he has done throughout his successful career.

Maybe you, I still think there are coaches out there for us besides him. The future will show that he was meant for here.

For God's sake.
The man lied to his AD therefore to his school president. Neither of them gave two hoots about a piece on the side. This is Eddie Sutton drunk tank country and Nolan Richardson graduated nobody U.
His actions opened the school up for lawsuits out the ears. Period. As far as he left other schools in great shape, read what the following coaches OR athletic directors said.
Zurich commented they had a mess to clean up and lost twenty one kids. Bielema had to rebuild. Western was a one year stepping stone. He left an NFL team with notes on the lockers.

Nope. No problem with not hiring that particular football coach.
Has he changed his spots??? Could be. Will he win a national title at Louisville? Maybe.
Was he worth the gamble at that time? Don't think so.
Neither did any other school in the country but WKU at the time.
And there were a lot....and a lot bigger than UK....that were looking for a coach.

A better football program than UK is getting Brohm whether UK spends the money or not. He is too hot right now for UK.

The first part of your post is just paranoia from decades of losing , everybody is out to getche .

But the part I quoted is another example in a very long line of poor reasoning . Nobody knew BCG was nuts , he exhibited none of the bat ish crazy traits that he displayed at UK . So when fans welcomed him with open arms they had no idea of how he was or they would have never wanted him . He banged a players gf after he was hired , how we're fans supposed to know that would happen . Do you see a difference there ?
Petrino had well chronicled issues before he was an option for UK , there were articles in glorious detail of what a complete turd he was . That gave fans information to formulate a negative opinion of him . Do you see the difference here too ? One appears to be ok and turns out he's not , the other is not ok before he's considered . It's almost as if fans didn't know one coach was bad before hiring but knew the other one was , it's a lot to take in .

Lots of you were on your moral high horse and are the same ones railing on Stoops now. Fact is, he's an a$$hole. So is Saban. Louisville had the nutsack to commit to winning. We ended up with a good guy... That's a hollow victory to me.

I like Stoops. I like a ton of what he has done. But I'm sick of not being able to enjoy college football.
If Petrino was UK's coach, I may not be a season ticket holder! I don't care if he could guarantee us winning seasons with championships involved, I don't want him as our coach! We'd be having to wonder what he really doing behind close doors! The closest I have ever come to giving up our season tickets was when Petrino's father was trying to get Mitch Barnhart to hire his son.

Haha, my goodness this is crazy. 50 mill, eh? He could sleep with every woman at UK and the lawsuit wouldn't be that high..and even if he did sleep with every woman in Kentucky and put them on the payroll (which apparently is worse than murder according to our fans) he would've already made UK more than 50 mill in expanding the brand of Ky. football, new boosters, bowl wins, season ticket sales, endorsements, etc, etc, etc.

At this point all we're doing is attempting to justify why we turned Petrino down but two other schools in state BOTH chose to hire him. I guess it makes us feel better but it's starting to get pathetic. You're kidding yourself if you don't think 90% of the coaches in college sports are sleezeballs that have done just as bad or worse than Petrino. We're like the ex that got dumped and now we're trying to convince ourselves that we're better off without them.

id have returned to season ticket buying had he been hired. I don't care what he does behind closed doors, that's his business. If I knew what went on behind everyone's closed door I'd prob not feel like going to any games at all.

I get the folks who say they wouldnt renew. I really do. On the flip side you have to understand that while short term we may have taken a hit. By year 3 and 4 (NOW) when he had his system in place and we were doing what they are doing there would be ten more to replace every one of you who left. I heard the UL fans say the same stuff when Pitino was hired and knew a handful who actually dropped their season tickets. One lady dropped a box and 20 season tickets. A few others were long time supporters that gave decent chunks of money. The kind of folks who Jurich knew by name. Not the huge donors like Patterson and Frasier (sp) but a notch below. Did UL hoops suffer because they left? I knew another couple that dropped and then re-upped a few years later.

Bottom line is we as fans see our teams like we see our kids. We say and do a lot of things but at the end of the day we usually come back to square one because you know, they are our kids. In the event that we step out of the picture we can be replaced. The program wont look back. People want a winner.

Use your eyes Leon put down the star book. Lamar Jackson is a unique talent with a unique skill set that has become obvious. Kyle Bolin was a pretty high rated passer too and hasn't blossomed under Mr. P's watch has he? The whole point was Lamar Jackson was a game changer for UL no matter who is coaching there and would have done the same thing if he were here and made these coaches look a lot better than they were too - YES, that is what I'm saying.

I'm reacting to the 400 threads that claim NOW that we must have hired the wrong coach because look at what he's doing without considering the Lamar factor at all.

All I am saying is that after 1-1/2 years on the sideline and a year playing college football, I would expect a 4 star QB to be able to find his receivers more often than he found the defense. Florida is 10X better than either team Louisville played, but 3-14-3 is horrible.

Pretty sure that isn't the case. I could be wrong, but I think saban just said "I'm not gonna coach Alabama". Petrino literally left a note for the team in the locker room.
Saban lied to his players and everyone in the Dolphins organization. That's about as low and underhanded as leaving a note in the locker room.

"And yet something about Nick Saban bothers a lot of people. The rap is that he's grandiose and unfeeling, a robot set on "win," that he's a hired gun with no particular loyalty to any team or institution. His detractors have their case file. In Miami he once stepped over a convulsing player after practice without acknowledging his presence. Saban was also captured on film screaming at a 300-pound lineman until the poor guy walked away weeping. Saban then enraged Dolphins fans when he left for Alabama after saying he wouldn't. In the college ranks, he's been accused of flouting the rules limiting scholarship numbers by encouraging injured players to leave the team. In 2007, he likened a loss to 9/11. The iconic images of Nick Saban after his championship wins are not of a jubilant victor lifting a crystal football over his head but of a coach giving the death stare to players who dared to douse him with Gatorade.

In SEC country, Saban bashing has become a particularly popular pastime. In January, Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin referred to Saban as "Nicky Satan" in front of a group of high school kids. In May, one of Saban's own former assistants, Tim Davis, now an offensive-line coach at Florida, called Saban "the devil himself" at a booster meeting. In an indication of the sort of loathing Saban inspires, one Orlando Sentinel writer penned a column taking Davis to task not for calling Saban the devil but for later apologizing for it."

I was against it at first, I thought he had to much baggage. And honestly, what coach has ever left a program and then came back and was successful again. It might have been done, but not on such a scale that it sticks out to me. While I enjoyed Strong's defensive football that required a lot of fan cheering and interaction, that made you feel like you are part of the victory, with Bobby ball, its lots of celebrating touchdowns and more festive and less stressful. Strong always wanted more fans in their seats at kickoff, Bobby is giving you a reason to be on time, because if you are late you could miss 3 touchdowns.

BP has personality issues that are much more general in nature than his acts of marital infidelity and professional betrayals. He is an egomaniacal ***. You know, the whole premise of this thread is really stupid. Those who didn't want BP (including the University Administration) were not basing that decision on the issue of whether or not his teams would be successful on the field or not, therefore to them - to whom this entire thread was aimed - his current success at Louisville is utterly irrelevent.

I don't agree w your premise: the issue was whether or not the risks/negativity due to association w him would not be worth it. 2 schools have shown that up to now that hasn't been the case. they were worth it.

Political Correctness. PC, I believe it's called.

You mean with BB guns(Barker) or drugs(Hatcher)?

BB guns are different than centerfire handguns and the fact that you had to cherry pick that point adds to my argument. Nothing was endangered in that situation except nearby windows.

Hatcher is no longer on campus even after coaches gave him chances to change. Marijuana is an illegal substance but posesses a vast array of health benefits. While often used recreationally, it's nowhere near as destructive as say meth, crack, heroine, opioids, etc.

And they would have been worth it at Arkansas - right up to the point the ish hit the fan. (or the cycle hit the pavement...). You can't say for sure the risk was worthwhile at any particular institution until his career there is over and he's gone.

That you think that article somehow equates Saban and Petrino shows how intellectually bankrupt the Bobby fans are . You are not the only one so don't think I'm singling you out . Across the board we have witnessed many failed examples of trying to attach the reverend Petrino to a palatable coach in order to misguidedly whitewash BP's name and minimize his actions . Nobody is buying it and it only serves to make your group look entirely ridiculous , pathetic , out of touch or just downright dumb .

I think it's more along the lines of being disingenuous , it's obvious that your group will lie and readily distort the truth if it helped your argument . Not caring whether what you say is truthful sheds light on why you can easily overlook Petrinos faults , you're a lot like him . Say whatever works for you , lie to the very end . In that respect I don't know if you can distinguish that it's wrong , clearly to you that's business as usual . Unfortunately for you UK will never be run with that mindset and nor should it be , if you want that type of cutthroat operation it will have to be another school .

So? This is how it works for weak football programs. You bring in a winner, he wins, and moves on to a traditional power. At least we get to enjoy wins while he's here.

I mean if you like watching losing football, more power to ya. And by losing football, I mean, we're probably the worst football team in fbs.

Do I like watching losing football? No. then again I don't like watching winning football if the wins come at the expense of my values and morals either. Perhaps its my age, my Christian values or the qualities and traits ingrained in me as a Marine officer, but winning by cheating and by bending the rules is not winning to me. I'm fine if you feel otherwise. Just the way I feel.
