If your son's biggest offers were Vandy and USM?

Where would you advice him to take a football (or other sport) scholarship?<div>
</div><div>I guess you can take into account the city he'll live in, the education he'll (presumably) receive, the connections he'll make, the conference he'll play in, the distance from home (assuming a Mississippi high school kid) and the games he'll win (or lose).</div><div>
</div><div>Which do you think you'd rather him attend/play for?</div>

there really is no contest even if they are traditionally the doormat for the SEC in football.

But just thought it was curious that Tip McKenzie supposedly chose an offer from USM over a chance to go to Vandy as well. That didn't seem right to me.

She had offers from among others, MSU, UAB, Georgia Tech, Auburn.

Vandy's XC team is lower tier of the SEC, but she figures a free education at Vandy in exchange for running is a good deal. She knows she will not win championships - but she didn't have opportunities at the top tier XC schools. She's a middle of the pack elite runner, she's going to a middle of the pack running school , that just so happens to be one of the top 20 universities in the country.

"middle of the pack elite runner" puts her in about the top 1/1000th of one f'n percent of the total population of generally fatass slobs taking up breathing space on this planet.

Jus sayin.

Vandy vs USM is too easy for Vandy. What about Vandy vs. MSU or Ole Miss? What if we add a school likeStanford to it? Incredible academics, decent to good football in a BCS conference.

I believe that if you maketop grades at MSU the world (or at least nearly any grad school)is still open to you. But average to good grades at Vandy or Stanford are MUCH better than average to good grades at State.

I've always thought a kid would be crazy to turn down a scholarship to a school like Stanford. I'd probably send my kid to Stanfordoveralmost any otherfootball school, depending on what he wanted to major in.

For Vandy, I don't see VandyhangingwithStanford's academic (or football)status, so the decisions become tougher.

For a State fan, Vandy over Ole Miss is fairly easy, but Mississippi State over Vandy?</p>

Most other sports, probaby Vandy. Really, there's so many factors involved that different schools are going to be best for different people.

but also the fact that it exposes you to one of the wealthies and most influential alumni bases in the south. Those contacts can benefit a young man or womanin life long after their sports careers are over. I went on a couple of Vandy dominated hunting trips with some friends of mine over the years and it appeared to me theirs is one big fraternity. The focus being on professional success more than sports. They also don't mind drinking a little either but would be bottom dwellers in that category as well.
