tough financial situations would jump on it. I guess it depends on each individual case.

then sign with the school we want. As long as the kid does not know, it's legal under NCAA rules.

I mean are they w/in a few hours of my home?<div>Is it a winning program or rebuilding program?</div><div>Is it a school I could see myself cheering for or is it a school I usually cheer against (before they offered my kid)?</div><div>
</div><div>A few factors to consider. But never say never.</div>

I don't financially need the money, so I wouldn't risk my kid losing his eligibility over greed. If I was poor, then certainly I would take it.

If it was UM offering the money, I'd contact the NCAA and set up a sting. 17 da bears!

The times being what they are, my 5 star better get offered more than 50K. Hell 20 years ago in the movie Blue Chip with Shaq and Nick Nolte, the 5 star white kid was asking for 30k and a new tractor.

Ultimately in the short term it would beneficial and nice. But the long term affect it could have on your kid if found out could be devistating to them.

....but I can completly understand why some people in that situation would do it if offered. Most of these guys come from some pretty tough backgrounds, 50K would mean a lot to their family. You think that kind of money would not have helped someone like Eulls and his family?

Of course there are going to be tons of scenarios to answer this question.

One scenario:

If the family is really poor then one question that comes to mind is whether or not the athlete is a "student athlete" or just going to play football. If he is a good student (butmaybe not eligible for academic scholarships)then I can't imagine you would take the money. Getting caught would end the chance for someone to get out of poverty with a free education. But, if the athlete writes in crayon then it might be worth the money because if he doesn't later make it into the league then this is your one guaranteed pay day.

but cam is now a future NFL star with a national title ring and the heisman. he'll be a millionaire many times over. cecil will have the nicest church in town. maybe his name is dirt to some middle class non-auburn fans, but among the athlete community, no pro athletes will begrudge them for asking for/getting money. the mentality of most of the athletes are that they should be getting paid.

then I get everything recorded and turn it into the NCAA and every media outlet in the country<div>
</div><div>We would take the best offer, start him an IRA, invest some more in medium and low risk stocks...make sure he has something after college regardless of how it turns out</div>

What does that say to your child if you take the money? Where my son plays football has nothing to do with money and everything to do with the people he will be around, the education he will get, and the football training he will receive.

There is no easy money in this world. If caught my son losses his eligibility and is robbed of what he has earned, i.e. am unmatched college experience with unlimited networking opportunities.

How unbelievably shortsighted would a parent have to be to take the money?

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc... yep gonna take every dime and ask for morebecause you know nothing will ever happen. If he wants to sign with State or Ole Miss then I'm not even taking a free glass of water because the NCAA will be all over it.
