do you play it conservative, play the safe shots and wait for them to come get you .. or do you attack the pins, assuming someone's going to make a charge at you and try to expand your lead, but also creating the risk of a bigger numbers if the execution isn't perfect

If the mind would only allow it! Seems like the fastest way to second place in any sport is attempting to protect a lead. I won't name the former MSU coach who sometimes seemed to be trying to run out the clock from the middle of the third quarter. I can't think of a single time it worked either.

I'm not defending him, just pointing out that it was rare that we had a lead to protect in the third quarter.

I was talking about Emory Bellard in the 1980's. He's actually one of my favorites and he gave us some good excitement. Of course, he left our talent for Rocky in about the same shape that Jackie left it for Sly. I can't remember a lot of specific examples. The big one that stands out is our 21-7 lead on Auburn at Halftime that ended in a 24-21 loss on a last second mid-40's length field goal at a mourning Scott Field.
