does anyone else dislike the setting of the championship games? There’s no atmosphere in those massive stadiums ( Champaign, Bloomington). Now that The Chicago Fire have vacated Seat Geek Stadium In Bridgeview why not try moving them there? Waaaay closer to the Chicagoland area, tons of parking, easily accessible. Am I nuts here or does anyone agree ?

We had a Huge thread, discussion and poll about this topic during this past off-season, if anybody can find it still.

Ahh my bad, I didn’t partake in any offseason chatter / threads. Other people brought this idea up?

They aren't played in Bloomington.

All I know is the atmosphere at U of I sucks. Same with the basketball going to Peoria, it’s too damn far

NIU needs to stick around. Save Seat Geek for the preseason Prep Bowl, or maybe the regular season prep bowl

NIU will host this year. I fully expect Illinois State to bid on the games when the current contract is up and my best guess? We will keep the rotating deal every other year and my guess is NIU and ISU will be rotating hosts....strictly just a guess from me no inside info on that at all. Contract is up after 2021 season NIU this year Illinois in 2020 then back to NIU in 2021...my guess is also they will request bids in 2020

It’s not too damn far if you live near Peoria. My point is you are rather Chicago-centric considering this is a STATE championship not a Chicagoland championship...... and I live in the Chicago area so don’t chalk me up to a downstate homer on this.

Seat Geek has a grass field as of today. I imagine they will change it.

Field would be ruined if the State Championships were today

I’m well aware that it’s a state championship but 90% of the crowd is from Chicagoland area, and 90% of the participating teams involved in these games are Chicagoland teams

Leggo is like my uncle in Park Ridge who always complains that he has to drive ALL THE WAY to the Jewel/Osco on Busse Highway. Is it far? Nope, it's just not a block away from him on Oakton.

Made the drive twice to Peoria to watch the Geneva girls win the state hoops championship and had a ball.

It's all how you look at things.

Dang, he must consider flying then if he needs to get to Geneva! What state is that in anyway?

I’m not going to debate basketball state team location percentages but you were making the same argument for football and using a Chicago area stadium.... your percentages certainly don’t hold true in football. Ever heard of 1a, 2a, etc....

This is not even remotely accurate. There is more to the state than the Chicago area and there is more to high school football than the Chicago Catholic League

Hold 1-3a in Champaign , 4-8a in Chicagoland area. I’ll readdress the percentages come state title time.

2018 state finalists by county:

Ogle (2) (Rochelle)
Adams (Quincy)
Ford (Champaign)
Macon (Decatur)
Piatt (Champaign/Decatur)
DuPage (2) Chicago)
Kankakee
Will (2)
McHenry
Cook (3)
Kane

7/16 = not 90%

NIU is an awful location, not centrally located and Dekalb is not a place people want to travel to.. I say stick with ISU every year, center of the state, great venue that's the correct size and B-N offers great fining and plenty of hotels.
