Like any bureaucracy the IHSA treasures "rules" above all else .
The end result is an organization that's long on form and short on substance.
Fenwick won a hard fought playoff game in regulation. That's the substance portion.
Plainfield North won the ref imposed misinterpreted rule part of the game in overtime. That's the "form " portion .

Fenwick was the better team on the field .
Plainfield North becomes the IHSA sponsored team in the championship game .
Win or lose their participation is tainted.
A shame for all the players , coaches, and fans from both schools.
Bureaucrats win , kids lose .
With the IHSA it will always be thus.

When you say sponsored are you some how insinuating that the IHSA wanted Plainfield North to win like it's we kind of conspiracy?

No not at all.
When the refs made their fateful mistake that placed the game in the hands of the IHSA.
If it were reversed and Fenwick had benefited it would be just as ridiculous.
The team that won the game in regulation BY the rules stays home.
Where does that happen except when bureaucrats impose a catch-22 rule?
