The more I think about the upcoming playoffs, I’m thinking the new format is actually going to be a good thing.
Round 1 will have some competitive games as well as get rid of numerous teams with decent records who actually aren’t very good.
Better to have a 3-6 team from a great conference than a 7-2 from a brutal conference in the 256.
It also allows the best teams in the state (record wise) 1 week to heal up heading into the start of their round 1 games.
This creates a more competitive 256 team tournament than we usually have.

I think the past two weeks are as good as I can remember for non-conference football with teams not worrying about “the race to 5”. Maybe that didn’t have anything to do with the NC schedule but we’ve had a great start to the year and as long as this format stays…the NC schedules should be awesome.
