Mullen seems to have handled his dual roles infinitely better than Croom did. (Granted, he had a larger block of time where he could be away from his soon-to-be former job than Croom.) He pushed through the initial holy-****-there's-a-lot-to-do days back in December and took it one step at a time. And while I hope we get the Alabama Torbush and not the A&M Torbush, he's evidently made some good hires along the way.

The situation proved me wrong, and I admit it.

1. Mullen does, it appears from the get go, have a clue about what it takes to actually be a competent college head coach

and

2. He appears to be enough of an energetic workaholic type to pull this kind of thing off.

devotion to the job are absolute prereq's to winning. Some of the stuff I hear coming out of Mullen's mouth points to that sort of understanding. It did not seem that Croom understood that. If you are a married guy, I think that the other piece is having a wife who understands that from time to time she will probably be a lower priority than a 17 or 18 year-old kid.

While recruiting is a different element for college, the NFL gig is complicated by owners, the press, and 30 year-old mean who are still acting like 18 y/o boys. So, I think it all evens out in the end.

Both guys have recently been shown the door as coordinators, but sort of shrug it off. They have both kept homes in SoCal for years, but are willing to work anywhere and live out of crappy corporate apartments. It's a really lousy life if you want relative calm and security, but there are clearly guys that do well with it.

In hindsight it seems pretty simple...Mullen knows what the hell he's doing...Croom, not so much. Croom's first recruiting class would likely have not been much (if any) better, even if he had brought his *** to town on day one. The GB playoff run was the first in a long list of sorry excuses associated with that man.

is that Mullen will be here on campus much sooner and he hasn't been away from the college game for 10+ years.
