Doesn't seem to be a pure "hitter" but I like that he puts the ball in the play and appears to be a damn good CF so far.

I must say though, he kind of has that Ichiro slap/run thing going at the plate.

it's nice to have a guy with his speed who can put the ball in play and is hard to get doubled up. Not to mention his D.

alone were worth the trip up to watch the games. Dude can flat cover some ground. Pretty decent arm, too. I am completely impressed with what I have seen of him so far. He could improve some at the plate, but I like what I see at this point. That brings up a subject we were discussing over a few drinks at the games this weekend. Who is the best center fielder to play at MSU, strictly speaking from a defensive standpoint? The general consensus among 4 or 5 of us was Joseph Hunter. He was like a gazelle out there. Everything seemed almost effortless. Hard to pick just one, because we have several great ones, but he would have been at the top of my list.

Fast as lightning with a good arm. He has played a little right field this year too. His hitting is coming around and will continue to do so as he gets more experience with the college game. He is a freshman right?

The standup triple he had on Saturday against Mich State was a thing of beauty. He had already rounded 2nd base plus a couple strides by the time the ball even hit the ground. His speed looks so effortless as well. He just appears to glide all throughout the outfield.

at the plate- he was outperfromed in practice by Brownlee and Collins among others. However, the switch has come on.

I don't know if it was adjusting from JUCO ball to SEC ball, or if he was still recovering from a leg injury he had in JUCO last year, or if it was just a slump.

Whatever it was, I think he is starting to figure it out.

Shepherd is a guy who has been drafted twice already and his Dad played for the Blue Jays in the 80's, so he has a big league pedigree.

I mean you know Football, Basketball and Baseball better than any human on earth. You are right, why judge players in practice? Whydoesn'teveryone see sports like the guy who has been banned multiple times? Idiots....

is really helping him.. they have been working with him on getting the timing down on the slap and running out of the box and it has turned a 1 for 11 (0.91) hitter into 7 for 23 (.304)

Jaron is our Willie Mays Hayes.

For the record- Micheal Rutledge = Roger Dorn

significant is the total picture.. 5 straight starts, 6 for 14, 1 double, 1 triple, and EIGHT Rbi (had 3 in the WKU win which was as many as Connor)

Brownlee isn't getting that spot back this year short of an injury.

Even during the 1-11 stretch he was advancing runners and hitting line drive outs as well as getting on base via BB and HBP.

He's been a great pickup for sure. I'm expecting big things from Trey Johnson as well. Has he pitched yet?

excellent defensive center fielders back in their day. Of course, I haven't seen any before with the flat out speed that Shepherd has.

Damian Sciouneaux was pretty good in 96-97. Maybe not the best, but he's up there.

I'm partial to Jody Hurst myself.

Anytime center fielders and Dudy Noble are mentioned, eventhough he played for Washington, it is required that his performance in the 1997 regional is brought up. It's also nice that it holds no painful memories as we advanced to Omaha despite him.

the guy that hit the ball that Brooks Bryan caught off of someone's grill in RF in that Regional final, I believe.
