but I agree with you. Sad part is that there are groups like Komen who will sue anyone who puts on a breast cancer related fundraiser and uses the phrase "for the cure" anywhere in their material because someone might confuse a small organization that might do something meaningful with one the one they really mean to give to that is mostly involved in litigation and self promotion. And most of the 'survivor' stuff being promoted is bull. You can get diagnosed with breast cancer, go through surgery/chemo/radiation for 61 solid months, die from it, and be called a breast cancer survivor because you lived 5 years.

dying. I lost my mother to breast cancer, 10 long hard years she fought that ****. Round after round of chemotherapy for five years, was told she was cancer free only to have it come back for four more years of chemotherapy. I hate cancer! She died in 2006 right before Easter, to this day I can't watch a show or movie about cancer.

Yeah, "who refuses to wear the ribbon"! Manny Diaz and that actor look alike. "who refuses to play defense"!

Also won't listen to songs on the radio about it either. It is a wicked, wicked disease that needs to be stomped the 17 out.

Cancer is not a joke, no matter what type it is. I am battling stage 4 prostate cancer right now so I'd appreciate the lack of jokes about it.

this awful disease has been too close to my family. It shows no partiality when it picks a victim. If NFL players, MLB players or whomever else it is can wear pink to help with killing this killer than let em wear pick every game.

have submitted toan annual"turn your head and cough" test since age 39. (Plus the accompanying blood tests.)

Lots of cancer and heart issues on both sides of my family and both sides of my wife's family.

I don'tmind folks raising money for specific deiseases, illnesses, conditioins, etc., ... it's just that I've heard and read some not so flattering things aboutsomeof the methods and tacticsused by the Susan G. Komen organization.

As far as Komen is concerned, afriend of mine has been participating in the Komen walks for years. He's doing three 3-day walks this year. I know Komen gets criticized for its methods and such but I like their emphasis on research.</p>

It kills almost as many men annually as breast cancer kills women but it doesn't even come close to receiving the research money that breast cancer research gets. We live in a society in which men are increasingly being marginalized by feminists in particular. Your wives and daughters or future wives and daughters need good men in their lives. I'm convinced that a significant part of society's problems result from the diminishing role men have been afforded in raising children and within marriages (most divorces are initiated by women and fathers often get only visitation rights...I could go on).

Get the books by Dr. Katz on prostate health and prostate cancer.

You're right.

Guys- there are a lot of warning signs, but unfortunately sometimes they're not as significant to us as they should be.

Any time you have a family history of any type of disease, always look up some warning signs of it and just be alert. Any guy over 50 needs to be aware of cancer signs. A big warning sign in men is low back pain- pains that don't go away, or you can't really think of a reason for it.. please go get them checked.

Pain not relieved by a change in position, pain that doesn't go with what is wrong with you, pain that is unrelieved by rest, night pain..... pain that won't go away.

Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of anything wrong with you.... be aware of fatigue that is not relieved by rest.

Good luck Plissken. rooting for ya.

I'm certainly not making light of the situation at all, but let's look at the reality... the ribbons and breast cancer awareness is all marketing, and they are taking full advantage of what they can (their relationship with the NFL) to raise awareness. Certainly, it is a good thing... but on the other hand, breast cancer is not the only type of cancer (as some of you in this thread have already pointed out). Truth is, these organizations compete for your dollar just like Walmart or Wendy's does. They want to get their name out there as well as their message, mission, and goals. I would donate my money anywhere that my dollars will go toward awareness and ultimately, curing these awful diseases... but ultimately, this is all marketing.
